Britney Spears broke her silence as she shared her thoughts on the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards that aired on Wednesday after stars paid homage to the pop icon during the big night.

The Baby One More Time hitmaker, 42 - who recently told fans to 'stay nice' - jumped to her Instagram page on Thursday to address her followers and admitted she 'forgets that I'm famous sometimes.'

Carpenter, as well as Megan Thee Stallion and Tate McRae, made references to the Princess of Pop during the live event.

Amid the Espresso singer's performance at the ceremony, she notably played a snippet from Spears' track, Oops!...I Did It Again and also kissed an alien on stage - seemingly referencing to Britney and Madonna's 2003 kiss.

In the latest clip, Britney admitted that she did not watch the show, but saw snippets on YouTube, including Sabrina's performance.

'Why is she kissing an alien on stage?' the star questioned, but added, 'I adore her. I love her to death.'

'I didn't understand that part. Why didn't she kiss a girl? Like, that was weird. But, I also thought that the whole thing was kind of like, weird altogether...'

Spears also gushed about how Carpenter talked about her on the red carpet, and said, 'This Sabrina girl, she said my name on the red carpet.'

'And I thought that was kind of cool because I forget that I'm famous sometimes,' she explained, and humorously added, 'Cause I'm a mom...I'm kind of old...'

Towards the end of the reel, Britney continued, 'But I thought it was kind of cool that Sabrina Carpenter said something about me.'

The star then gave a shocked expression and joked, 'Thanks, that's cool. She made me cool. Okay, maybe not.'

During her performance on stage at the 2024 MTV VMAs, Carpenter belted out lyrics to three hit tracks: Please Please Please, Taste and Espresso.

While joined by an alien, she also grooved alongside dancers that were dressed up as astronauts. It seemingly was another reference to Spears and her music video for Opps!...I Did It Again - which also featured an astronaut.

However, Sabrina wasn't the only celebrity to pay homage to the pop icon during the ceremony.

Megan Thee Stallion recreated Britney's outfit that she had worn during her 2001 VMAs performance with a snake.

However, while donning the ensemble as she hosted the festivities, the rapper panicked as the large python was draped around her arms.

Following a commercial break, MTV played a throwback clip of Spears' iconic performance and then cut to Megan in a similar outfit with a snake.

While surrounded by the crowd, the star didn't stay close with the reptile for long and could be heard saying, 'Okay! Okay! Stop the music, stop the music!'

'I'm just playing. Come get this snake. I don't know this snake. This snake don't know me,' she expressed and someone eventually removed the snake.

Afterwards, the Sweetest Pie singer explained to the audience, 'I tried to hold it down for Britney.'

However, in the Instagram video uploaded on Thursday, Spears failed to mention Megan's reference to the outfit and past performance.

But social media users shared their thoughts on Megan's ensemble, with some fans wishing for a collaboration between the rapper and pop icon.

One wrote on X, 'megan being terrified just makes it insane to believe a then 19-year-old Britney Spears managed to pull off performance carrying that snake/ in a cage with a tiger.'

Another penned, 'Not Megan channeling Britney yes mother,' while one added, 'i need a Megan and Britney collab so bad, she shouted her out on Anxiety too.'

Tate McRae was another star who channeled Britney on the red carpet, and wore a sheer, black minidress that referenced to the star's 2001 VMA's ensemble.

Tate put on a leggy display while wearing a Roberto Cavalli black, lace minidress that contained a hem that stopped inches above her knees.

She also donned black, Fleur du Mal lingerie underneath and completed the look by slipping into a pair of open-toed, black heels.

Back in 2001, Spears notably wore a similar outfit while strutting on the VMAs red carpet.

McRae - who has been compared to Britney due to her dance skills - told People late last year in December that the comparisons are 'an honor.'
