Halle is in town to promote her new survival horror film Never Let Go, currently in post-production.

The Lionsgate film, starring a largely unknown cast, had its world premiere on Monday with Halle looking fantastic in a fitted shimmering gown.

Never Let Go follows a mother (Halle) and her twin sons who have suffered from the torment of a malicious spirit for many years.

However, when one of the boys starts to doubt the existence of the evil, the family's sacred bond is broken, leading to a dangerous fight for survival.

Never Let Go will have a second premiere at Fantastic Fest on September Thursday before hitting cinemas on Friday.

The film is Halle's first firmly in the horror genre since 2004's Gothika in which she was supported by Robert Downey Jr. and Penélope Cruz.

Halle told horror multimedia company Bl***y Disgusting why she empathises with her her character and why she wanted to do the film.

She said: 'If you really love your children sometimes you’re tough, but there’s a fine line between mental and physical abuse. And my character, to her credit, she’s a different kind of mom trying to raise boys in a very unique circumstance, and it’s that tough love that’s keeping them alive. That’s how I always looked at her.'

On what drew her to the project, Halle said: 'This is one of my favorite genres of movies, but this one felt different for me. There are some things that feel familiar, but you’ve never seen a Black mama with her two Black sons in the middle of the woods tied to a rope to a house, you know?

'And the generational trauma of it all! The spiritual and religious aspects of it. All of that made it new for me and something interesting in the space so that’s what made me want to dip my toe back in to the genre.'

In a September Marie Claire interview, Halle revealed that she fell in love with her partner Van before they had sex - a first for her.

Halle revealed she had 'never' before been intentional with her relationships and she felt 'loosey goosey' prior to dating the musician.

'It was the first time I was madly in love before I had sex,' she said speaking candidly other their connection. 'That has never happened to me, ever.'

'Talk about one of those life-changing, beautiful experiences. It was magical, just magical.'

Halle told the outlet she created her career, and was intentional about that, but when it came to relationships she was not, and was instead 'loosey goosey'.

She explained: 'You have to be clear with the universe [or] any old thing will find you. The minute I started to feel like I understood myself and what I had been doing wrong, Van’s brother, who I had known for many years, came to me and said: "You should meet my brother."'

Van has one child, a teenage son named Drake, while Halle has daughter Nahla, 16, and son Maceo, 10, with third husband Olivier Martinez.
