Wendy Ide Times (UK) The original James Bond film and still one of the best, Dr No is the Caribbean romp that launched Sean Connery's charming 007 on the world. Mar 21, 2024 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Reader All of the elements of the formula are there, but in pleasing moderation. Oct 13, 2008 Full Review Variety Staff Variety An entertaining piece of tongue-in-cheek action hokum. Mar 1, 2007 Full Review Sarah Cortinaz InSession Film It’s is a great way to get the franchise off the ground and who better to do it than Sean Connery. It may be a little predictable with the storytelling, but it’s pure fun. Apr 23, 2024 Full Review Dilys Powell Sunday Times (UK) The first of the James Bond films (I trust there will be others) has the air of knowing exactly what it is up to, and that has not been common in British thrillers since the day when Hitchcock took himself off to America. Aug 8, 2022 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy The first movie to feature Ian Fleming's iconic secret agent seems almost quaint when compared to the pictures that followed, but that's hardly meant as a knock. Rachael H Although the film is 60 years old it didnt seem like it. Lots of action and stunts and an undercover fisherman from the Cayman Islands - great! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/17/22 Full Review Jonathan J Classic Bond are just great. Despite being over 60 years old it still holds up!. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/23/24 Full Review Lucas C While not as good as other Bond films definitely top 10 Bond. 7.4/10. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/01/24 Full Review Mary S Awkward, poorly planned, rinky settings Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/28/24 Full Review DanTheMan 2 Kickstarting the 007 franchise, Dr No has always been a film that I've found exceedingly average bordering on monotonous, however, there's no doubt the film has a great deal of style even if it's technically dated rather poorly. It has all the pace of a procedural B-movie thriller, plodding and lacking any form of energy outside of Connery, Wiseman and John Barry's theme; Terence Young's direction is nothing special, despite Ted Moore's photography being rather luscious in conjunction with Ken Adams' great set design but the writing is incredibly by-the-numbers and the less said about Monty Norman's score... the better. Ultimately, Dr No just doesn't do anything for me, as with most of Connery's outings as 007, it may have kickstarted the world's obsession with spy fiction but that's about it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/07/24 Full Review Amir A I didn't really expect much from this movie and the green screen is really bad in some scenes like the car chase. But I can't fault it because it came out 62 Years Ago. Sean Connery's James Bond is pretty unlikeable as he's always killing people and is a womaniser to the point where he's the real villain of the movie. And who is Dr.No?-All I Know is that he's some Chinese guy but I still don't know who he really is.
