In 1985, Burr reprised the role in Godzilla 1985, the American release of the previous year’s Japanese reboot, a direct sequel to the original film (he was now referred to as simply Mr. Martin, since 1980s audiences had another Steve Martin on their minds).

By 1989, two little boys in Arizona were moved to tears watching Burr’s final monologue on VHS, delivered as Godzilla is cast into a volcano, seeming to shriek in terror or agony.
