Kherson (Ukrainian: Херсо́н) is a city in southern Ukraine. It is the administrative centre of Kherson Oblast. In 2020, 286,958 people lived there.

The city is an important port on the Black Sea and on the Dnieper River.

The city was a site of heavy fighting in the first days of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.[1] The city was reported to be under Russian control as of 2 March 2022.[2][3]
