Why does someone keep reverting the info box for Truro ? There is a discussion going on here - Proposal for the removal of the flag on Cornish town/village infoboxes..... and the general consensus seems to be in favour of no flags to be included on the Cornish info boxes. The consensus is nowhere near that. Instead we now have a POV fork on this article. All of these have been deleted before and this is another attempt to get round that consensus. It should be removed immediately. Regan123 12:09, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm not happy at all with English infoboxes being on Cornish pages but until a compromise/agreement is found I've put the English one on. Truro is my home and I am very proud of my city, Cornwall is my home and I am proud to be Cornish, but my political views can't come in the way of the (supposed) facts. --A Cornish Pasty 13:17, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

There seems to be some confusion about this as if the English infobox is the only accepted format for Cornish town/village articles then surely these do not conform either ! Penzance, St Ives, St Just in Penwith, Hayle, Marazion, Gwinear-Gwithian, Ludgvan, Madron, Morvah, Paul, Perranuthnoe, Sancreed, Sennen, St Buryan, St Erth, St Hilary, St Levan, St Michael's Mount, Towednack, Zennor.

You are right indeed. Those are the incorrect infoboxes and should be changed. I don't see the point now with Infobox UK under way. That doesn't change the fact the English flag is still on that as well. Consenus is that Cornwall gets treated as England until/unless the constitutional position changes. "In 2007 there was some controversy when the major of Truro accepted an invitation for a visit from the "St George's Day Loving Cup" event. The event is described as "A Tour of English Cities" to celebrate St George's day in each "English" city. Many Cornish organisations, including the Cornish Stannary Parliament and the Celtic League have complained that this is an insult to the Cornish people as they say that Truro is not an "English" city, but a Cornish city. They have stressed that the event is not visiting any other Celtic cities in Wales or Scotland so therefore it is unacceptable that the event should be held in Cornwall." ST. I don't see the relevance of this in the Truro article. Including it would be obvious NPOV and would not come under the category of "information about Truro" as per an encyclopedia article, but rather a category of "disputes of the status of Cornwall". If it needs to be included at all on Wikipedia then it could be done so on the Constitutional status of Cornwall page. --Joowwww 12:02, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

How about half a throw away sentance somewhere like - there was some controversy recently surrounding St Georges day celebrations in the town with the word cotroversy linking to an edited version of this paragraph as a section on the Cornish nationalism page. That way the information is included for the interested reader, but does not dominate this page as it does now with its own section. Mammal4 14:50, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Also, the reference given is not a reliable and acceptable source as per Wikipedia:Attribution. I have therefore removed the article, it is still above, for discussion, until a comprimise solution can be agreed or some verifiable sources can be used. Mdcollins1984 10:53, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Added a compromise sentance as follows with a link to more detail elsewhere. There was some controversy recently surrounding an event planned for Truro by the English Democrats party to celebrate the patron saint of England, St George. Does anyone know about the twinning of Truro with Stade, Germany, Truro, Nova Scotia and Truro, Massachusetts? The Truro City website [1] says only Morlaix and Boppard are twinned, however this website mentions Stade: [2] and these two mention Stade and the North American Truros: [3] [4] Many thanks --Joowwww (talk) 00:14, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Jonty Haywood should be in the list of notable residents. The AfD deemed him notable enough to have his own article. Joowwww, when you say "That may be so but it's not notable for this article", what definition of notability are you referring to? The AfD deemed the article Jonty Haywood to be notable not to be deleted. It did not deem the article notable for inclusion on the Truro article. The Notable Residents section on the Truro article is for notable residents, not everyone who has an article who was born in Truro. It's for people of national interest not some bloke who created a website and wants a link on the site for his own vanity. I'm sorry but I disagree completely. WP:N deems the person notable enough to have an article. It doesn't make any sense to say that it deems the article to be notable. The article certainly isn't notable, it has only just been created and hardly anyone knows about. For Jonty Haywood to not be included in the Notable Residents section, you need to explain why notability in this article differs from Wikipedia's definition of notability (or WP:N) which I don't think it does. The Notable Residents section should list everyone born in Truro who has a Wikipedia article, because for them to have an article they must have been deemed notable according to WP:N guidelines. I should have said "subject" instead of "person". I reiterate my original point that the AfD deemed the article notable for inclusion on Wikipedia, not to be linked to on the Truro article. Take a look at Category:People from Truro, are you suggesting that everyone here should be listed on the Truro article? Add the Jonty Haywood article to the Category, by all means, but it's not notable for inclusion on the Truro article. --Joowwww (talk) 15:56, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

I were accused many times of vandalism because I corrected mistakes in some articles about Breton place names written in French. About Montroulez, for exemple, Joowwww said we must write “in English”, that is according to him “Morlaix”. But “Morlaix” is not an English name, but the French name for Montroulez. What is the English name for this town ? There’s no English word for it !

So, the solution is the same as in the whole languages. There are two possibilities : 1) There’s an English word, so we must use it. For exemple, “Brittany” is an English word, and it should be ridiculous to write “Brest is a town in Breizh”, “Brest is a town in Bretaña… 2) There’s no English word, so we must use the name in the language of the country of the place in question, so in this case the Breton, or for Donostia in Basque and not San Sebastiàn in Spanish. It’s the same case in the other languages : Truro or Galway are English words and English words only : it should be ridiculous to write “Truru is a town of Cornwall” or “Gaillimh is a town in Ireland”. But in the other languages we must use, if there’s no word for these towns, the names in their local languages : “Gaillimh ist einer Stad in Irland”, “esta Truru una cuidad en Cornualla”. In the same case, it should be ridiculous to write in French "Montroulez est une ville de Breizh".

It’s true it’s now a practice –but a bad practice– to write the place names in the languages of the States –and not of the true counties. We must change this mistake ! This mistake is a administrative and political problem only, not a linguistic one. But why there's an article on the English Wikipedia about “Tibet” ? This “province” is in the Chinese state, so why note write Xizang ?

Vandalism so ? When I made changes, I tried always to maintain the links, by writing Montroulez and not Montroulez only. I made these changes under my account “Meven”, and when I put links on the English Wikipedia with article I created on the Breton one, I keep this count : I don’t try to hide what I do so and who I am. After one of my changes in the article “Truro”, “Yohann” omitted it with the annotation “breton nationalistic edit” ! But in my changes I didn’t express political opinions. I changed only Morlaix and Saint-Brieuc by Montroulez and Sant-Brieg, and, it’s true, France by Brittany (with the flags changed also). But Yooowww can also change the name of the article “Tibet” and give a new name, “Xizang” ! Of course, it’s a fact : Brittany is under the French rule, but it’s the same case for “Tibet” under the Chinese rule. Once again, it’s a administrative point of view, not a linguistic one. All the people don’t agree to say Montroulez or Sant-Brieg are “in France” or not, and saying yes –as Joowwww– can be also accused to express the imperialistic French point of view a much as it’s a “breton nationalistic” point of view to say the opposite. Saying they are in Brittany is a neutraler choice, and the whole opinions can be according with this

Vandalism ? What can you say so about English speakers who try to destroy my articles on the Breton Wikipedia whe I add links on the English one only, and who insulte me here ?

It's a nice picture but very selective. Look the other way, up Walsingham Place, and you'll see a concrete multi-storey car park - not a pretty one either.

There is some confusion in the statement that the "former Truro County Grammar School is now a bar". The original Truro Grammar School was a boys' school, originally sited in St Mary's Street; this old building is now a bar. Truro Grammar School evolved into the Cathedral School; sadly neither school now exists. Truro County Grammar School was a girls' school and was in Treyew Road where Sainsbury's supermarket is now. Unfortunately, the school and the fine old building which housed it are now longer with us. (Maryjane22 (talk) 16:09, 5 July 2013 (UTC))

The The West Country Challenge will take place from 8 to 28 August 2016. The idea is to create and improve articles about Bristol, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, like this one.

The format will be based on Wales's successful Awaken the Dragon which saw over 1000 article improvements and creations and 65 GAs/FAs. As with the Dragon contest, the focus is more on improving core articles and breathing new life into those older stale articles and stubs which might otherwise not get edited in years. All contributions, including new articles, are welcome though.

Work on any of the items at:

• Core articles
• Missing article hotlist
• Missing photograph hotlist

or other articles relating to the area.

There will be sub contests focusing on particular areas:

• Bristol (Day 1-3)
• Cornwall and Scilly (Day 4-6)
