Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Estonia
Points of interest related to Estonia on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Stubs – Assessment |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Estonia. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Estonia|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Estonia. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Europe.

Wikipedia is not a dictionary; an alternative to reading this article would be reading an Estonian dictionary. Also see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/French exonyms, which resulted in the French equivalent of this article being deleted. As argued there, this list is an indiscriminate list of place names. I agree that an article about the linguistic and historical aspects of the formation of place names in Estonian would be notable, but that is not what this is. OK, this seems to be something of a borderline notability case. I'm nominating this because there may be decent sourcing that exists to establish notability, but also because this could potentially wind up getting deleted in the end. There was no consensus about this article at AfD back in 2008, but many of the "keep" votes from back then could only cite things like Google search results and sponsorships (see WP:INHERITED), when not just resorting to copouts with WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Most of the sources cited are WP:PRIMARY, and I can't find much information about this site via Google outside of unreliable, WP:NOTRSMUSIC databases. I'm not saying this positively needs to go, but if it's going to stay, it needs serious improvements. But for now, I would like to invite other people to comment with what they think. - Comment: Simple Google search shows that, Metalstorm.net has been referenced by multiple reliable publications. I'm a little busy now, but I will try to conduct a full search later. dxneo (talk) 08:48, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
- Interesting that comes up on your end. Googling Metal Storm on my end only comes up with promotional, user-generated and wiki (including WP:CIRCULAR) results. Definitely share what you can find when you're available, I might change my position based on what you provide. JeffSpaceman (talk) 11:52, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
- Try removing the space between "MetalStorm" and search on ProQuest or Google Scholar. Using "MetalStorm.net" helped me find more specifically where people had cited it. Why? I Ask (talk) 02:07, 25 September 2024 (UTC)

- Keep: This is not a nomination to be taken lightly considering that 500+ pages link to it (since it is used as a widely cited source). I can see it listed in Metaldata: A Bibliography of Heavy Metal Resources as a prominent review site and Alternative Cultures and Leisure: Creating Pathways for Sustainable Livelihoods highlights it as a notable forum. At the very least, it is cited in several books by academic publications (those by McFarland & Company, Waxmann Verlag, and Bloomsbury), so it clearly does not exist in a self-contained bubble. Why? I do not believe that the subject of this article satisfies notability guidelines. A cursory search did not turn up reliable independent sources that could be used to improve it. Even looking beyond that, the article in its current state appears to be entirely deserted, consisting mainly of empty tables. It is debatable how relevant this information would be anyway as per WP:NOTDB. ElooB (talk) 13:06, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

- comment Estonian Football Association pages for these U18 U16 U15. I'm not sure why these articles are grouped together as there is no 1 youth team, all of them are different teams. I rather see them seperately. So I'm not gonna argue they have notability in this discussion. Pelmeen10 (talk) 17:50, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- @ElooB: I made it into disam page [1] such as England national youth football team, Belgium national youth football team, Poland national youth football team, Scotland national youth football team, Spain national youth football team, Sweden national youth football team. I say keep it as disam. Pelmeen10 (talk) 18:17, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

- Delete - lacking WP:SIGCOV, I find zero News sources. I did a couple of searches and found no additional reliable sources. She might be talented, but she’s not getting any attention. Bearian (talk) 01:40, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Relisting comment: Relisting. I don't see how this is a candidate for a Speedy Keep when two participants are arguing for Deletion.

The sources used are from organization websites that have a direct connection to the subject. No independent sources are used. Not clear that the subject passes WP:GNG. 4meter4 (talk) 23:56, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

- comment @4meter4: isn't it excessive to add such amount of maintenance tags, especially just before nominating for deletion? Pelmeen10 (talk) 19:27, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- Out of experience, I find it useful to tag problems relevant to an AFD to help guide talking points in an AFD discussion. It may aid article improvements during an AFD if a rescue is attempted, or it helps others identify sourcing problems that may confirm a lack of notability. Best.4meter4 (talk) 20:21, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- Some sources I managed to find: appearances on national TV and radio [2] (not original but appearance in ETV+), [3] [4] (Raadio 4) and reviews on Sirp [5] [6] and marriage. I made the search with "Maria Veretenina", but the search should be done in Russian, I think "Марии Веретениной". First results from that: long interview and another interview on Postimees but needs a paid subscription. There are more, but this should be enough to confirm it passes GNG. Pelmeen10 (talk) 20:03, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- Keep in view of the sources identified above by Pelmeen10 which confirm national TV and radio performances and the Sirp reviews, imv Atlantic306 (talk) 20:37, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
