Hi. Since your someone who regularly researches FOP can you do me a favor and tell me what you think about the wording in Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Bangladesh#Freedom of panorama? Maybe it's just me, but I can't make heads or tails out of it for some reason or if 2d artwork qualifies for FOP there. I assume not since the guideline says Bangladeshi law is modelled on the UK and 2D "graphic works" aren't covered by FOP there but it's not really clear from the wording of the section if that's the case or not. @Adamant1 the old Bangladeshi law is based upon the British copyright model, and its FoP had resemblance to the British FoP. However this is moot, considering that Bangladesh passed a new copyright law in 2023 (which I posted on "Village Pump/Copyright"). This new law seems concerning as it did away with British-inspired fair dealing exceptions (including FoP), and replaced those with a very limited list of exceptions based on the U.S. fair use model, and we all know that any copyright law that wants to follow U.S. copyright model does not have any FoP of any sort, like the one of Sri Lanka. Because only Bengali text exists (no reliable English translation text is available online, be it official or unofficial), I cannot check if FoP still exists in the 2023 copyright law of Bangladesh. Hhhhmm, makes sense. It's unfortunate there's no English translation of the new law since people are uploading a ton of 2D artwork in the meantime. I don't think we should just allow people upload whatever images they want to because there's no English translation of the law. But then I don't want to do mass DRs for artwork that might be PD either. So I'm not really sure what to do about it. --Adamant1 (talk) 23:38, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Adamant1 I'd rather wait for an English translation (even unofficial) rather than making drastic revisions to COM:CRT/Bangladesh page. It must also be determined if the more restrictive law is retroactive or not. I already pinged few Bengali users in the VPC thread for them to read and translate the Bengali text for us (but it seems they are busy, perhaps[?]). Just to be clear I'm not planning on doing anything about it at this point. It would suck for people to upload images of a bunch of artwork from there if it turns out that it's not covered by FOP though. So hopefully someone who speaks the language can translate the law into English at some point. Otherwise the status in the guideline should just be changed to "unknown." Or at least clarified somehow. I'm not going to nominate anything for deletion or change the guideline for now though. --Adamant1 (talk) 01:12, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Yann perhaps, but removing it may cause impression to some that Mrb Rafi was referring to my comment. An optimal solution may be removing the spam as well as his remark on the spam altogether, though I would want to have Mrb Rafi's comment if he agrees the spam as well as his remark be removed altogether.
