‘Victoria’ Season 2
Whether PBS wants to admit it or not, Victoria is the frothier, soapier, easier version of Netflix’s The Crown. Both series follow a young English queen struggling to balance personal and political drama in the hallowed halls of Buckingham Palace — and both shows happen to feature Alex Jennings as a meddlesome royal uncle. However, where The Crown is a tense character study of the people we’ve cast as living gods, Victoria is a guileless delight. It’s a dreamy royal romance full of pretty costumes and tawdry affairs. Season Two only doubles down on this divide, with twists about Alfred’s parentage and a melodramatic look at Victoria’s struggles with post-partum depression.
