‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’
No matter what mood you’re in on this particular Christmas Eve, there’s a Christmas Carol for you. Watching with the grandparents? They’ll probably have memories of watching the 1938 version, Hollywood’s first proper adaptation of Charles Dickens’ tale of the not-so-merry miser. Wanna take a sleigh ride through the Uncanny Valley? Try a scarily CGI’d Jim Carrey in 2009’s Disney’s A Christmas Carol. Looking for something a little more edgy, with some ’80s cocaine energy and a flash of nipples? Bill Murray’s Scrooged is your choice. There are even more choices — see our complete guide to Christmas Carol movies here — but my recommendation is to fire up 1992’s The Muppet Christmas Carol. Why this one? A few simple reasons: Great songs (“Marley And Marley” slaps!), many merry Muppets, and Michael Caine playing it SUPER serious. George C. Scott, eat your heart out!
