‘The Crown’ Season 6 Part 2
It’s the end of an era. Netflix’s long-running royal drama The Crown came to an end this week, and in doing so, sounded a death knell for the modern monarchy. The show’s final six episodes — launched on Netflix as The Crown Season 6 Part 2 — introduce Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy), bid adieu to Princess Margaret (Lesley Manville), and finally unite Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Camilla Parker-Bowles (Olivia Williams) in matrimony. However, the reason why I loved The Crown‘s finale is thanks to creator Peter Morgan’s unhinged decision to go full scorched earth on the current royals in the final episode. First Elizabeth II (Imelda Staunton) confides to her younger self (Claire Foy) that she knows she’s better at the gig than her family and then Prince Philip (Jonathan Pryce) gives a macabre prognosis for the future: “The party is over.” It’s a wild end for a show that started with understated glamour and a fitting farewell to an iconic show and long-running institution.
