‘Sebastian Maniscalco: Is It Me?’
It’s been almost 4 years since Sebastian Maniscalco dropped his last hilarious hour, Stay Hungry. If you had any concerns that the 49-year-old Italian American stand-up stallion had lost any speed on his fastball after having experienced fatherhood and the pandemic, I’m happy to report that he comes out guns blazin’ in his new Netflix special, Is It Me? Shot in Las Vegas and framed up as a honorarium to the Rat Pack’s ’50s era Vegas glory days, he spends most of his special doing what he does best — exasperatedly complaining about the current human condition while making a vast array of outlandish facial expressions. His material touches on some hot button issues (race, cancel culture, and even gender-identification among elementary school-aged children!), but never in a way that feels retrograde or out of step with the times. Maniscalco certainly pines for the “good ole days,” but Is It Me? is proof positive that he’s still firmly in his personal comedic Golden Age.
