‘Sanditon’
Sanditon might very well be the Jane Austen adaptation for people who think they’re sick of Jane Austen. Based on the author’s last unfinished novel, PBS’s Sanditon follows the spirited, yet naive, Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) as she enters the wild world of an 1817 seaside resort. Charlotte is there as the friend of the Parkers, whose familial ambitions go further than a country estate. Together, they want to turn the quiet town of Sanditon into a state-of-the art vacation destination. Helping and hindering them on this path are a crotchety dowager, her scheming relatives, and an impetuous heiress from the Caribbean. However, underpinning all this soapy drama is the budding sexual tension between Charlotte and her host’s brooding younger brother Sidney (Theo James). The two butt heads upon first meeting, but then, so do all of Austen’s most captivating lovers…
