‘Mary Goes Round’
I’m a sucker for the “broken person returns to their hometown” plot. It’s difficult to add anything new to the ever-growing adult coming-of-age genre, but Molly McGlynn’s evocative indie drama Mary Goes Round proves that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel to craft an engaging, emotional film. Featuring a dynamic performance from future movie star Aya Cash, the movie follows Mary, a substance abuse counsellor with a drinking problem who returns home to tend to her dying father. A genuine film with sporadic moments of unexpected humor, Mary Goes Round is a must-see for indie movie fans.
