‘Long Shot’
Long Shot was an underrated 2019 romantic comedy that set out to make Seth Rogen a worthy romantic interest for Charlize Theron, and, surprisingly, succeeded. (What can I say? He cleaned up in that tuxedo!) It indulges in the kind of contrived romantic comedy set-up that you so rarely see anymore: A schlubby journalist falls in love with the extremely out-of-his-league U.S. Secretary of State. Is it cliché? Sure. But much like those classic ’90s romantic comedies like Notting Hill or Pretty Woman, that’s why we love it. Plus, it helps that writers Dan Sterling and Liz Hannah updated the gender politics for the modern era. The movie’s recently been added to Netflix, so give it a whirl!
