‘Jailbirds’
Netflix docu-series Jailbirds is like a real-life Orange is the New Black. The six-part docu-series follows a group of female inmates, many of whom are still waiting for their court dates, at the Sacramento County Jail as they reflect on their sentences, communicate with each other through the toilets (yes, that really happens), and attempt to survive the jail’s harsh conditions. Jailbirds may seem like other prison docu-series, but it’s considerably lighter than its genre counterparts, and the shift in tone works. How are you supposed to discuss a toilet-fueled love triangle with a straight face?
