‘Inglorious Basterds’
Before you hit the theaters to see Quentin Tarantino’s latest opus, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, fire up one of his more underrated masterpieces. Inglourious Basterds is a pulpy, messy, tragic, and ultimately triumphant tale of revenge in Nazi-occupied France. The film follows young Shoshanna (Melanie Laurent), a beautiful Jewish woman who narrowly escapes the clutches of vile Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Years later she meets him in Paris, and plots her vengeance. However, a violent group of Jewish-American soldiers, under the command of Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt), and a British counter-intelligence officer played by Michael Fassbender are also planning an assault. The two Allied teams collide in a bloody, bullet-ridden attack that pokes ironic holes at our love of violent movies.
