‘Genera+ion’
HBO thrust Gen Z into the spotlight with Euphoria, and now, HBO Max is doubling down with Genera+ion, a new dramedy about the modern-day teenage experience. Like its spiritual predecessor, Genera+ion boasts a diverse cast of up-and-coming talent, including Justice Smith, who plays the openly-gay, crop-top-loving Chester, and Nathanya Alexander, the actor behind the brash and un-PC Arianna. HBO Max’s new series may be a comedy (Girls alum Lena Dunham serves as an executive producer, and it shows), but, much like high school itself, every scene is teeming with tension and promise, imbuing the series with the sense of immediacy that characterizes great coming-of-age stories.
