‘Born On The Fourth Of July’
Nothing spurs on a decision to watch a movie like knowing that they’re disappearing from your favorite service, amirite? When I learned that Born On The Fourth Of July was expiring from HBO on March 31, 2018, I pushed all of my other streaming obligations aside and queued up the film that won Oliver Stone the Best Director award at the 1990 Oscars. It’s a tremendously moving work of art, based on the real life story of Ron Kovic (Tom Cruise), an idealistic young man who loses a lot in Vietnam —his innocence, his legs, his faith in America— but ultimately finds his purpose as a leading anti-war activist.
