‘Barry Lyndon’
Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon is an absolute jewel of a film. Set during the tumultuous years of the Seven Years’ War, Barry Lyndon follows the rise and fall of Irishman Redmond Barry (Ryan O’Neill). The young Redmond foolishly fights for the heart of his pretty cousin, only to lose everything in a duel. He winds up first fighting in Europe for the English crown and later the Prussian army. However fortune smiles on him when he meets a wealthy heiress whom he decides to seduce. The film is full of spectacular cinematography that not only makes the past feel more present, but more opulent than ever before. However, the thing that makes Barry Lyndon a much-see is Kubrick’s command of tension.
