‘Alone’ (Season 8)
Season 8 of the popular survivalist reality TV program Alone debuted on The History Channel back in June of 2021, but recently found its way onto Netflix’s Top 10 list after the streaming giant released all 12 episodes. If you’re unfamiliar, the premise is simple: 10 contestants get dropped off in the middle of nowhere — each individual is on their own, miles away from their nearest competitor — and have to survive using just their wits. They have to create shelter, discover a food source, stay mentally disciplined, and most frighteningly, fend off natural predators. This season was filmed in Canada’s British Columbia on Chiliko Lake, colloquially known as Grizzly Mountain (yes, the place is crawling with hungry bears). The show is terrifying, inspiring, and occasionally even a bit gross; the gentleman in the photo above carved and inserted a nose-ring he made out of a goddamn BONE!
