Traffic over a Northampton County bridge is being restricted due to structural damage discovered in a recent inspection.

PennDOT is posting a weight restriction on the bridge that carries Hecktown Road over Route 22 in Bethlehem Township.

Vehicles will be restricted to 19 tons on the bridge between Green Pond and Hanoverville roads until further notice, according to PennDOT District 5. It posted the restriction after a recent inspection determined there was structural damage to several steel bridge girders and they cannot handle the maximum legal load of 40 tons.

The Hecktown Road bridge was built in 1954 and is 93 feet long and 32 feet wide.

This section of Hecktown Road has an average daily traffic volume of 6,287 vehicles, according to PennDOT.
