On our last show, we performed a complete installation of the Pop OS onto a Raspberry Pi computer. Using video capture from the Pi output, we were able to show the entire process from bootup to completion. Thereafter, because of a hiccup of the video capture system, we provided a verbal tour of the OS. After the show, we did a little breathing into a brown paper bag and a bit of troubleshooting and now the hiccup is gone. The video capture problem has been resolved. So this week, we’ll do a thorough tour of the Pop!_OS Linux distro, with live visuals!
Pop!_OS is a fine, standalone Linux distro that is well suited for any would-be user coming from a Windows or Mac background. It’s usage is at once familiar and intuitive to new Linux users, coming with tools like a dock, an app store and a desktop that is an easily recognizable marriage of the Windows and Mac desktop experience. From there, users may comfortably stay with Pop OS as a daily driver or use their newfound Linux experience with Pop OS as a springboard to try more “techy” distros.
Please join us this Thursday, February 22nd at 7:00 PM Central (01:00a UTC) at https://lnkd.in/ggqge4Sw for our weekly live, interactive show. On this week’s show, we tour our newly installed distro, the Pop!_Pi version of Pop! OS, on the Raspberry Pi. We completed the installation on the last show so we’ll do a thorough tour of this very capable distro and evaluate it it as a daily driver and as a transitional OS for users looking to explore a move from Windows or Mac to the Linux universe. Pop! OS runs on x86/x64/AMD platforms on bare metal, in VMs or on live flash drives. Of course, it also runs on the diminutive little Raspberry Pi where it happily takes its place as a daily driver OS. From there, it can be an evaluation/practice OS before installing Pop! OS on a heftier platform or as a transition to a more “nitty-gritty” Linux distro. Check out the show to see if Pop!_OS or the Pop!_Pi variant might be something to explore.
Our weekly, interactive show includes a major topic as well as plenty of interactive tech talk, tech news of the week, projects and plain ol’ fun.
