The other day, I got a note from a global sales leader who’s been in the game for 15 years — because of something I posted online. He said, “When I first read your post, I didn’t agree with you. But after thinking about it, I realized you were right, and I’ve come around.” (For context, I shared that “We killed the word ‘handoff’ in our business.”) So I asked, “What changed your mind?” “I’ve been focused on improving the handoff between teams my whole career. But no matter how much effort I put in, it’s never good enough. Your post made me realize it’s not about fixing the handoff—because the concept itself is flawed.” That hit home for me. It was a reminder of how much we can learn when we stay open to new perspectives, even on things we’ve been doing for years. We ended up having a longer conversation, diving deeper into his business and his challenges. And that’s something I’m working on—asking better questions, digging deeper, and helping people connect the dots in their own experiences. Because at the end of the day, the best leaders are the ones who keep an open mind and stay curious.
