#cybersecurity is like an arms race. Cyber defenders need to constantly improve because cyber attackers are constantly improving.
I've recently spoken with several #cybersecurity leaders who are seeing budgets staying static - or even being reduced - because they have NOT had a major incident. Their senior leadership thinks that the security program is solid so it doesn't need further investment. Cybersecurity is not like building a better mouse trap. While the mouse hasn't evolved significantly in hundreds or thousands of years, cyber attackers can - and do - evolve overnight. And #AI is only making it easier for them to do so. This is a major issue that we need to address in the industry. We have to better articulate that cybersecurity is like an arms race where cyber defenders must be in a continuous state of improvement in order to compete with cyber attackers.

Over the past year, I've seen far more layoffs amongst cybersecurity teams than I've ever seen before. (Actually, I don't recall any layoffs of cybersecurity professionals before last year.) This seems to be a real disconnect from the need for cybersecurity today.
