Generation C is being invaded by the B-Girls. 80s cult singer Josie Cotton, best known for blurring the angst of both liberals and conservatives with “Johnny Are You Queer?,” sees the science fiction claustrophobia arising from the coronavirus pandemic and wants to help. Cotton joined the Minutemen’s Mike Watt, the Runaways’ Cherie Currie, and Eddie Spaghetti on the song “Flatten the Curve,” to benefit the Jubilee Consortium and the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. Everyone else, she advises to cuddle up with a bad movie. Cotton ventured beyond the valley of the dolls in a “so-bad-they’re-good” movie hunt to accompany this real life B-Movie scenario and re-released Invasion of the B-Girls.

American independent filmmaker Ted V. Mikels died yesterday at his home in Las Vegas after an unspecified “long illness,” according to The Las Vegas Review-Journal. While Mikels filmed a Brylcreem commercial with Joe Dimaggio and a promo reel for Chris Rock, he will be best remembered by fans of cult cinema, sci-fi and horror thanks to films such as The Black Klansman, Girl In Gold Boots, and The Astro-Zombies. He was 87.
Mikels was born Theodore Mikacevich in St. Paul Minnesota. As a youth, Mikels dabbled in photography and acting, as well as performing magic, acrobatics, and fire-eating. He discovered filmmaking when he began shooting his own performances. “I figured out that you have to move the camera around to get different angles, and then you have to edit the film when you’re done,” the director told Unitshifter in 2008.

Pardon the blasphemy, but Jesus H. Christ, who the hell decided it would be a good idea to release Ted V. Mikels Worst film on DVD? The bigger question would be why the hell did I decide to even review this film? If it ranks as one of the worst Ted V. Mikels films And one of the worst films ever to grace MST3K (some would say it made for the worst episode of that show too), why would anyone in their right mind give Girl in Gold Boots the time of day?
I asked myself that question throughout each and every painful minute of this film…
I can understand why 88 Films saw fit to release Blood Orgy of the She Devils and The Corpse Grinders...

Cinematic Titanic is the live feature-length movie riffing show from the creator and original cast of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Like MST3K, the show was created by Joel Hodgson and features the same team that first brought the Peabody award winning cult-classic series to life: Trace Beaulieu (Crow, Dr. Forrester), J. Elvsi Weinstein (Tom Servo, Dr. Erhardt), Frank Conniff (TV.s Frank), and Mary Jo Pehl (Pearl Forrester). Cinematic Titanic continues the tradition of riffing on .the unfathomable., .the horribly great., and the just plain .cheesy. movies from the past. Cinematic Titanic is coming to St. Louis. The St. Charles Family Arena will be hosting Joel and the gang on Saturday, November 17th) starting at 7:30 (doors open at 6:30). The movie that will be riffed on this year is Ted V. Mikel.s 1973 classic Doll Squad starring the late Wamg muse Tura Satana.

Random Acts of Dancing is an ongoing exploration of the weird, wild and obscure world of cinematic dance scenes.
Back when I wrote those “Getting Emotional with Movies” articles, I wasn’t consciously aware of any pattern to the films I chose. If an identifiable pattern did emerge, I figure the most obvious would be my predilection toward female characters who know how to move it like they mean it. (Check out the posts on Joy, Desire and Exhilaration for further information.) I have noticed, though, that often when I come across a dance number that tickles my fancy, it’s in a film that I didn’t necessarily expect one to pop up. Like Christina Ricci‘s tap dance in Buffalo ’66, or this scene from The GoodTimesKid:
In the interest of helping others discover the lesser-known instances of cinematic shaking and shimmying, I put together this random list of...
