Idris Elba is set to appear in an upcoming Netflix movie. While much of the film is being kept under wraps, some of the cast and crew have already been announced. In fact, fans of the Yellowstone franchise might recognize one of his co-stars in the project.
Many Of Elba’s Co-Stars Have Been Announced
Actress Aminah Nieves will join Idris Elba for the upcoming film. Nieves is known for her breakout role as Teonna Rainwater in the Yellowstone prequel series, 1923. In 1923, Nieves plays a young woman of the Crow people who is put into a government-funded, Indian residential girls’ school.
At this time, not much is known about Nieves’ role in the story. However, Nieves will get to work with a lot of prominent talent both behind and in front of the cameras.

Believe it or not, James Cameron has only directed nine released narrative features in his titanic 40-year career in Hollywood. The self-proclaimed cinematic King of the World is the second-most lucrative filmmaker after the incomparable Steven Spielberg, with Cameron’s wildly entertaining movies grossing $8.7 billion globally. Still, two of his titles remain slightly overlooked compared to Aliens and the landmark Terminator and Avatar flicks. If you had to make a legitimate case for either, what would you say is Cameron’s most underrated movie: The Abyss or True Lies? Aside from Piranha 2: The Spawning, that is.
As you chew on that sucker, it’s worth noting that True Lies is loosely adapted from the 1991 French spy farce La Totale, directed by Claude Zidi. It’s the only film in Cameron’s quiver to be remade from a preexisting movie. More historical yet, with a budget nearing 120 million dollars, True Lies...

Welcome, readers, to Late to the Party , a column that's right on time when it comes to catching up on anime everyone's already watched. This column addresses a universal truth in regard to being an anime fan: an anime backlog is quite the powerful beast. Many of us have one, where we amass more and more content we have designated in the "planning to watch" category. How and why it takes so long to actually address this task varies from person to person, but the gratification of finally allocating the time is really quite splendid. Occasionally, it’s by watching a classic anime from yesteryear that you’ve had your eye on for quite some time. When I think of May, my curious little mind tends to gravitate toward the word “mayday,” as if a ship is being sunk. Based on this one small coincidence, I sought out an anime based on naval warfare.

Cathy Schulman says getting into the movie business was a “bit of an accident.” It was a time before studying cinema was recognized as a fine art, so she was a playwrighting major at Yale. Then someone told her she would average about $1,500 for her plays. Concerned if she could support herself, she was advised to look into the movie business. “I said, ‘What’s that?’” Schulman, now the CEO and president of Welle Entertainment, recalls. “And the next thing you knew, I was in an interview, and I was hired to work on a set, and the rest is history.”
The movie was “Blue Steel,” and the-then 22-year-old Schulman was excited to see the film was being directed by a woman, Kathryn Bigelow. (She didn’t know it would be another 20 years before she worked with a female director.) From those humble beginnings, Schulman would go on to enormous...

The 1990s represented a golden epoch for action cinema. This was the time which saw VHS and its digitized successor DVD introduce a whole new generation of fans to the magic of stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. And those titans from the ‘80s still claimed big wins, too, at the box office and home media via the likes of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Demolition Man, and Cliffhanger.
It was also the decade that saw audiences turn out in droves to theaters and rental stores to catch a glimpse of Steven Seagal’s flying fists in movies like Under Siege or Jean-Claude Van Damme and his trademark splits in Timecop; Jackie Chan finally got the larger American fanbase he so richly deserved thanks to the Rush Hour movies while Bruce Willis gave us Die Hard With A Vengeance, the best of all the Die Hard sequels, before pivoting...

While promoting the home video version of his historical blockbuster “Oppenheimer,” director Christopher Nolan recently stressed that it’s really the only way to go when it comes to watching his movies at home. Not only does he finely calibrate his films for the best home video experience (leading to the 4K Ultra HD version of the movie to sell out everywhere) but he stressed buying the movie on physical media means you can “put it on a shelf so no evil streaming service can come steal it from you.”
And while, yes, he’s joking, he is right about one thing: the only way you can insure that the movies you love will be around is by owning them on physical media. Thankfully the home video labels have been stepping up their game, with deluxe packages overflowing with extras and feature films presented in their best possible format.

It’s hard to believe today, after Speed and four Matrix movies, and four John Wick movies, but there
was a time when Keanu Reeves was not considered viable as an action star, especially after his portrayal
of lovable time-traveling doofus Ted Theodore Logan in Bill & Ted’S Excellent Adventure.
But that perception radically changed in 1991 with the adrenaline extravaganza Point Break, which
featured Reeves as an FBI agent hot on the trail of some bank-robbing surfers led by Patrick Swayze. But how exactly did this preposterous combination ever reach the beach? Grab your board and catch a wave as we find out Wtf Happened to this movie!
The idea for Point Break first surfaced in the mind of filmmaker Rick King [The Killing Time] after he
saw a newspaper article declaring Los Angeles as the bank-robbing capital of America thanks to the
getaway convenience provided by the city’s numerous freeways.

This post contains spoilers for "John Wick: Chapter 4."
Movies and television are, of course, primarily visual mediums; having looks that kill goes a long way for an actor's career. However, one must not discount sound completely — having an extraordinary voice can also make an actor that much more desirable.
One of the world's greatest living voices belongs to Clancy Brown, and he's been handsomely rewarded for it (rightfully) with a lengthy and storied career. Brown's honeyed, dulcet tones have graced the screen in everything from "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension" to "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs," and his versatile character voices have turned up in animation as varied as series like "Gargoyles" and "Spongebob SquarePants."
Director Chad Stahelski is certainly well aware of Brown's prowess as a character actor, including his formidable presence and commanding voice. The actor brings all of this to his performance...

Ed Pressman was cool. And he had taste. He didn’t care what other people thought of a given project. If he thought it was cool, that was enough. He kept his own counsel; he was quiet. But if he wanted something, he let you know. He was not one to take no for an answer.
This helps to explain how he came to produce some 80 films over the decades. And he had not slowed down in recent years. When Ed and his son Sam came to IndieWire’s Cannes party two years ago, Ed found a quiet corner and worked his phone. Pressman died January 17 of respiratory failure, at age 79.

Edward R. Pressman, the prolific Hollywood indie producer behind Wall Street, Badlands, American Psycho, Das Boot and The Crow, among dozens of others, died Tuesday in Los Angeles. He was 79.
His death was confirmed to Deadline his company, Pressman Films.
With dozens of acclaimed and impactful films and TV movies stretching back to the late 1960s and including now-classics like Conan the Barbarian, Talk Radio, Bad Lieutenant and Brian De Palma’s 1972 Sisters, Pressman was noted for discovering talented directors early in their careers. In addition to Sisters he produced De Palma’s Phantom of the Paradise, and, with the acclaimed 1973 TV-movie Badlands, Terrence Malick. Jason Reitman made his directing debut in Pressman’s 2005 Aaron Eckhart starrer Thank You for Smoking.
An early collaboration with Oliver Stone on the 1981 drama The Hand paved the way for Talk Radio (1988) and the 1987 Oscar-winning Wall Street. He and Stone produced Kathryn Bigelow’s early film Blue Steel (1990).
Among the other directors with whom Pressman would forge early bonds were Alex Proyas (The Crow), Sylvester Stallone (Paradise Alley) and Sam Raimi (Crimewave).
Among his many other credits both domestic and international, either as producer or executive producer, are Fred Schepisi’s Plenty, starring Meryl Streep; Wolfgang Petersen’s Das Boot; Mary Harron’s American Psycho, with Christian Bale; James Toback’s Two Girls and a Guy; Harold Becker’s City Hall, starring Al Pacino; Danny DeVito’s Hoffa, starring Jack Nicholson; Charles Burnett’s To Sleep With Anger, starring Danny Glover; Barbet Schroeder’s Reversal of Fortune, starring Jeremy Irons in an Oscar-winning performance as Claus von Bülow; and John Frankenheimer’s The Island of Dr. Moreau, with Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer.
Pressman also earned Emmy and PGA Award nom as an executive producer of the 2018 HBO telefilm Paterno, and former longtime Penn State football coach Joe Paterno. The producer also was nominated for back-to-back Indie Spirit Awards in 1992 and ’93 for Homicide and Bad Lieutenant, respectively, and received Film Independent’s John Cassavetes Award in 1991. He also received a Tribute Award from the Gothams in 2003.
A native New Yorker and Stanford University graduate who also studied at the London School of Economics, Pressman has been honored by the French Cinematheque, The National Film Theatre in London, New York’s Museum of Modern Art, the Pacific Film Archives and the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Cinematék, among others.
Pressman is survived by his wife of 39 years, Annie McEnroe Pressman, and son Sam Pressman, who has worked for Edward R. Pressman Productions for the past decade and says he will continue producing films for the company in honor of his father.

“Zoolander” is officially 20 years old as of September 28, 2021. To celebrate two decades of Blue Steel references and more, director-actor-writer Ben Stiller joined Esquire magazine alongside stars Christine Taylor, Milla Jovovich, and more to look back at the comedy classic. One of the big revelations from the 20th anniversary interview arrives early: Jake Gyllenhaal auditioned for the role of male model Hansel, famously played by Owen Wilson in the final cut.
Stiller told Esquire that Wilson was always his top choice for Hansel, but there was a time when scheduling conflicts suggested the actor would not be available to film the movie. The studio forced Stiller to hold Hansel auditions, which is when a young Gyllenhaal entered the room.
“The only one that I remember clearly was a young Jake Gyllenhaal doing this wide-eyed version of Hansel that was really funny,” said Stiller, who also revealed that Andy Dick was supposed...

The 78th Venice Film Festival will this year award a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to American actress Jamie Lee Curtis. The ceremony will take place on September 8 at the Sala Grande before the out-of-competition world premiere screening of David Gordon Green’s Halloween Kills. Venice runs September 1-11 on the Lido.
Halloween Kills is the follow-up to 2018’s Halloween, which saw Curtis reprise her iconic role as Laurie Strode and took over $250M worldwide to become the highest-grossing chapter in the four-decade franchise.
From Universal Pictures, Miramax, Blumhouse Productions and Trancas International Films, Halloween Kills starts global rollout on October 14 via Universal. The official trailer was released last week (check it out here).
Said Curtis of the Lifetime Achievement, “I am incredibly humbled to be honored in this way by the Venice International Film Festival. It seems impossible to me that I’ve been in this industry long enough...

With HBO Max having launched in May and NBCUniversal’s Peacock looking to enter living rooms in July, the number of streaming platforms for consumers to choose from continues to multiply. It can be easy to get lost in that shuffle and forget that there are a vast number of films that are already available to watch online without any cost of admission at all. Services like YouTube and Tubi have quietly accrued brimming libraries with the only cost being an occasional ad break and a sturdy internet connection. These include classics that have entered the public domain, like Orson Welles’ “The Stranger” and Stanley Donen’s “Charade.” Some newer films are simply available through licensing agreements, parts of a cycle of free content to get to before they expire and are replaced by other films.
As these libraries continue to fluctuate, it’s easy to lose track of what...

In the words of “Sweeney Todd” pie baker Mrs. Lovett, “Times is hard.” As everyone adjusts to the new reality of working remotely, comedians and filmmakers who rely on freelance work are being hit hard. Film and TV productions are shutting down faster than we can update our exhaustive running list. Comedians are losing out on precious weekly gigs. Theater practitioners are worried the nonprofit theater world may not bounce back. An already tenuous lifestyle just became a whole lot harder.
And yet, creatives gotta create. Lock a comedian or filmmaker in their apartment for seven days straight and they are bound to come up with some pretty entertaining — if more than a little bizarre — content. What more can be said about Chuck Norris? The ubiquitous ’80s B star, he made a series of mostly bland actioners that would only come alive if the director brought a little something different to the table, because they certainly weren’t going to work with an actor who has the charisma of a constipated two-by-four. This brings us to Silent Rage (1982), a hybrid sci-fi/horror/kung fu effort that is quite effective when it pushes away from The Hairy One’s usual antics. You want to see Michael Myers karate chopped by Lone Wolf McQuade? Step right up.
Okay he’s not Michael Myers, but he may as well be; Pov shots and the unstoppable killer’s relentless gait definitely harken back to Halloween and even the previous year’s Halloween II in a bid for some of that sweet slasher bread. It worked well enough at the box office,...

John Oliver closed out his latest edition of Last Week Tonight mocking the Instagram antics of TV news talent, aka “people who already have outlets to express themselves.”
“An adult asking you to follow them on social media gives the same vibe as a clown asking you to join him in a sewer,” Oliver observed, after showing video of Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro and others doing just that.
“If you choose to follow news anchors on Instagram, a whole world of sad wonder awaits you,” Oliver promised.
Some favor the conventional, like CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, who likes to post photos of himself with his dog. Oliver explained that’s a lot like people who post pictures of their children “except other people enjoy it too.”
CBS’s John Dickerson also posts photos of himself with his dog, but in his photos “he always winds up looking like a serial killer,...

Though Zack Snyder has gotten back into the filmmaking game, the guy sure has been enjoying sharing all kinds of interesting trivia pertaining to Justice League in recent memory. Sometimes, he may provide answers regarding things from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice that have puzzled moviegoers for the past couple years, or he may declassify some cool pictures. Either way, he’s doing a fine job of keeping DC fans engaged.
When it comes to the topic of today’s discussion, it’s actually yet another photo, but it deals with a hero whom I believe stole the show in Jl, that being Aquaman. Sure, Arthur Curry may have had to share the screen with heavy hitters such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Cyborg, but he still made his mark – and proved to be a pain in Parademons’ asses along the way.

Kat's on vacation and Thursday she was ready to swing into the weekend ... courtesy of some chill time in a hammock. Her bf, David Foster, wasn't around, but she seemed to be in a deep FaceTime convo with someone. Based on the Blue Steel looks she was flashing ... it could've been David.

No matter what your level of Supernatural fandom may be, there’s a reasonable chance you’ve heard the term “Spn Family” at some point. And while I myself may be a diehard viewer that’s been on board ever since the pilot episode originally aired, I admittedly take no part in the whole Tumblr thing. Still, it’s always great to see how a slice of fiction such as this little horror series that could has united folks the world over.
The latest round of news, however, looks at “Spn Family” from a different perspective because, well, we’re now to take it quite literally. As you may have heard, Danneel Ackles, wife of series star Jensen Ackles, will soon be boarding the show in a guest role. Set to play Sister Jo on a recurring basis sometime in the back half of season 13, she’s been described as...

To snag a Tony nomination for his first major Broadway performance (his debut was in the ensemble of 2006's The Threepenny Opera), Lucas Steele has made his way from small-town Pennsylvania all the way to the far reaches of outer space. When Steele’s character Anatole makes his dramatic entrance in Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812, he does so from behind a wall of light and fog. “Like Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” Steele tells Et over the phone from backstage at the Imperial Theatre, where he’s between a suit fitting and a haircut, his coif dyed preternaturally blonde for the role.
“Otherworldly” is how the actor describes Anatole’s look, one Steele has adopted for the Broadway run of the musical he’s been with for five years, since its humble beginnings off-Broadway. Hardly anyone would disagree with that description, least of all Natasha, the naive ingénue whom Anatole seduces over the course...

They showed the trailer for Split at a screening a few months back. When the words ‘from the Director of The Sixth Sense’ popped up, there was an audible groan from the audience. Such was the state of the beleaguered director, but after last year’s fun The Visit, and now the wicked and witty thriller Split, his best in years, M. Night Shyamalan’s fortunes are looking up. After minimal set-up involving a parking lot abduction, three teen girls wake up in a locked, windowless room. Two of the girls (Haley Lu Richardson and Jessica Sula) are friends, while the third, Casey (Anya Taylor Joy) is an outsider. Their captor is Kevin (James McAvoy), who proceeds to both terrify and confuse them. One minute he’s Barry, a fey Brit, the next he’s a woman named Patricia, then he’s Hedwig, a nine-year-old boy, and then he’s Dennis,...

For 13 years we’ve been caught in the middle of Kate Beckinsale’s Lycan-hunting warfare, a streamlined franchise that’s sustained many tests of time, especially Beckinsale’s ageless taking to vampire purity. I wondered who dared asked for a fifth chapter in this R-rated Twilight for adults, and I was answered by a moderately full NYC movie theater audience, who hooted and hollered as Selene waged bloody retribution against both hairy and pale factions. People turned out for what’s essentially an H&M Bdsm orgy that’s interrupted by werewolves before any hanky panky can begin – but was their perseverance rewarded? By the grace of Nosferatu, Underworld: Blood Wars could have been way, Way worse. I’ll admit that.
As previously noted, Beckinsale once again returns as the famed “Death Dealer” Selene. Even with no memory of her daughter Eve’s whereabouts, she’s still hunted by Lycan...

O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? On Keke Palmer‘s pants!
On Friday afternoon, Palmer, 23, stepped out in New York City wearing a unique two-piece patent leather look. The black collared crop top featured the word “Capulet” written across the back, perhaps an ode to Shakespeare’s Romeo Capulet.
But her ensemble got even more interesting with her rose-covered pant-legs, which had pictures of a young Leonardo DiCaprio — smiling, crying and even giving his best “Blue Steel.”
Putting both “Capulet” and little Leo together, the singer and Scream Queens star appears to be honoring DiCaprio’s role in the 1996 adaptation film Romeo + Juliet,...

If the last few Chanel runway shows have taught us anything, it’s that you can always expect a sea of colorful tweed on the catwalk and the hottest group of young up-and-comers with über-famous parents in attendance. Chanel’s creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, has hosted Lily-Rose Depp, the Pinkett-Smith children and Ava Phillippe (Reese Witherspoon’s daughter) to numerous brand events recently, but he took his bond with Hollywood offspring one step further at the annual Métiers d’Art show in Paris Tuesday. He tapped Sofia Richie and Lily-Rose Depp to walk the runway (for the first time!) alongside...
