In the Korean film Revolver, audiences meet Ha Soo-young, a former police officer who has just been released from prison. Played compellingly by actress Jeon Do-yeon, Soo-young finds that the large financial reward she was promised for taking the fall in a corruption case has vanished.
Left with nothing, she embarks on a determined quest to track down those who betrayed her and get what she’s owed. While the film has some shortcomings in developing secondary characters, Jeon’s gripping central performance holds the storyline together. Her portrayal of a woman with no options left but to pursue repayment through any means necessary makes for an engaging thriller.
Betrayal, Blackmail, and Broken Promises
The film provides insight into Soo-young’s situation through flashbacks showing her corrupt past as a police officer. It’s revealed she and others accepted bribes, though they were on the verge of arrest before Soo-young...

However, actor Ji Chang-wook recently faced flak from some fans for smoking. On January 26, the Welcome to Samdal-ri team released a behind-the-scenes video featuring Chang-wook and other actors. In the video, the Healer actor smokes an electronic cigarette on the set. To the uninitiated, it is not legal in South Korea to smoke or vape in public places. Smokers must smoke only in designated smoking areas.
In South Korea, fans don’t spare celebrities for breaking rules. Hence, after the video was released, many expressed their disappointment on social media.

The Netflix original Griselda has taken the world by storm, thanks to its fast-paced storytelling and immersive visuals. It really transports you to late-’70s Miami with its costumes and visuals. I suppose it’s one of those shows that you can gobble up in one sitting, so you’ll be looking for some sort of replacement now that it’s over. The show tells the story of Griselda Blanco, aka the Godmother, who took over the drug scene in Miami soon after she killed her second husband and fled with her kids from Medellín to Miami. Although her intention was to sell one brick of coke and set up a new life for herself, circumstances led to a completely different chain of events. We know you’re as addicted to these shows as the cokeheads who fell at the Godmother’s feet. The rise of the Godmother was quick and dramatic,...

The Worst of Evil has left a large crater in our hearts after that finale. Not only is it an engaging show with some very talented actors, but it comes alive with a bibimbap of genres that makes it thrilling throughout. We can’t go without talking about the chemistry between our two leads, gangster Wi Ha-Joon and undercover cop Ji Chang-Wook. There’s no need to compare the two because they each bring their best work to the table in these roles that they wear so well. While we’ve seen Ji Chang-woo in action roles before, this is the first R-rated version, and it’s great to see him reach his full potential. On the other hand, this is the first time we’re seeing Wi Ha-Joon as a gangster, and we’ve got to say it suits him rather well. With that, let’s quickly get into...

Ji Chang-Wook and Wi Ha-Joon’s K-drama series has crossed the midpoint and is still going strong. The Worst of Evil, set in the 90s, is well-stylized and thrilling in all the right ways, not shying away from violence. This week’s episodes of The Worst of Evil have revealed some interesting things, and as always, there’s the question of Junmo’s morale: how far can he go as a cop, what will he do to keep his wife safe, and why is he doing all of this at the end of the day? At the same time, gangster Gi-Cheul thought he had an informant on his team, but maybe he should’ve checked up on his facts first before trusting new guy Seungho.

We’re only two episodes in, and already there are a lot of confusing turns in The Worst of Evil. As expected, the show is extremely violent and leaves nothing to the imagination. Of course, all the actors are commendable in their roles, and to see Wi Ha-Joon and Ji Chang-Wook team up together is a real delight. Additionally, this is like a comeback to action for Ji Chang-Wook, and a fitting one at that. InThe Worst of Evil episode 1, we find out about Gicheul and Junmo’s pasts, their backstories, and how they ended up getting to know each other. At the beginning of episode 1, we see them fight it out with what looks like another gang, but when Junmo’s wife, Euijeong, gets caught in the crossfire, it’s both him and Gicheul who react. How does Gicheul know Euijeong?

The much-decorated Japanese drama “Drive My Car” was named the best film Sunday at the Asian Film Awards, defeating hot favorite “Decision to Leave.”
Other notable awards went to Japan’s Hirokazu Kore-eda whose “Broker” debuted at Cannes, but which was largely shunned in his home country.
“Decision to Leave,” which started the evening with ten nominations, was nevertheless rewarded with three awards, best screenplay, best production design and best actress for China’s Tang Wei.
While nominations were geographically diverse, the awards on Sunday skewed heavily towards North East Asia –Japan, Korea and Greater China – to the total exclusion of films from India, Indonesia and The Philippines. Snubs included the exclusion of Indonesia’s “Autobiography” and Happy Salma, both of which have been widely lauded on the festival circuit.
The awards ceremony returned to Hong Kong after detours to Macau and Busan and a Covid hiatus in previous years.

The People’s Princess’ 1997 car crash shocked the world and ignited a debate about how she died, one that is still being discussed in forensic detail today, riddled with conspiracy theories. Channel 4 will launch first in the UK and Discovery+ has taken second window outside the UK. “This utterly compelling series explores in forensic detail what happened in the investigations following the death of Princess Diana – what it was like for...

A+E Networks is giving a multinational launch Wednesday to “If You Wish Upon Me,” a Korean drama series that was produced by its A+E Studios unit.
The show is a transformational story of an impoverished man with a troubled past and a twisted attitude who accidentally joins Team Genie, a group which carries out the last wishes of patients in hospice care. He starts caring for people other than himself for the first time and learns how to open his heart and live harmoniously. Photo: ‘The Sound of Magic’ Annarasumanara ‘The Sound of Magic’ is a new South Korean drama on Netflix that examines mystical themes with its witty one-liners and musical numbers. The series is an adaptation of Ha-Ilkwon’s manhwa (South Korean graphic novel), ‘Annarasumanara’. The word “annarasumanara” is said repeatedly throughout the drama and is essentially similar to the sayings of “abracadabra” but in Korean. The screenplay adaptation is written by Kim Sung-yoon who also directed the drama and who is known for his work on ‘Love in the Moonlight’ (2016) starring Park Bo-gum and the popular Netflix K-drama ‘Itaewon Class’ (2020) starring Park Seo-joon. The series is not as lengthy as other South Korean dramas as most typically have 13 to 16 episodes, but ‘The Sound of Magic’ has one season with 6 one hour long episodes. This article contains spoilers for The Sound of Magic.
Adapted from a webtoon called Annarasumanara, Netflix’s latest Korean-language release, The Sound of Magic, is a quick watch at only six episodes—much shorter than most K-drama fare. For that runtime, the drama bites off a bit more than it can chew in terms of storyline, which makes the final episode action-packed with plot points, including reveals concerning magician Ri-eul’s past and the identity of Seo Ha-yoon’s murderer. The ending also must wrap up Ah-yi and Il-deung’s respective stories, which it does with a series-ending time jump in which we see Ah-yi’s life several years after the main events of the story. Here’s everything that happens in “The Last Performance,” The Sound of Magic’s final episode, and what it means for the themes of this magical coming-of-age tale.
