Snorri Thórisson, CEO of Reykjavík-based production outfit Pegasus Pictures (Icelandic line producer of Game Of Thrones), has revealed details of the company’s latest feature projects.
One of the most ambitious projects the company is hatching is The Falcons.
The feature will tell the remarkable story of the Winnipeg Falcons, the ice hockey team made up almost entirely of Icelandic immigrants that won Canada’s first ever gold medal at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp. These immigrants had been treated as outsiders but became national heroes.
The Canadian partner is Julia Rosenberg and Thórisson is putting The Falcons together as an Iceland-Canada co-production using the treaty between the countries.
The film is based on the book When Falcons Fly by David Square, which Thórisson has now re-optioned. An earlier attempt by Thórisson to make the film foundered but the Pegasus boss is confident the film will go ahead this time round. The feature...

At a remote glacier drilling station on the outskirts of the arctic circle, two young researchers wake up to discover that their station base camp has been mysteriously abandoned with no sign of their team anywhere. Aside from a couple of titles Iceland's not exactly known for its horror movies. Even though our folk tales are ripe with monsters, ghosts and ghouls local filmmakers have never looked at horror as something to pursue or be particularly proud of, I chalk it down to arrogance mostly. Producers Julius Kemp and Ingvar Thordarson are basically the only ones who can see the potential in genre fare and their Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre (aka Harpoon) is now the most distributed Icelandic film in history. Why? Because it's horror and horror sells very, very well. The production duo along with director Reynir Lyngdal is now back with another genre film, a found footage horror/sci-fi mashup that has lofty goals and fantastic surroundings to play...

I sincerely hope that there will be a good making-of featurette on the DVD release of Frost so we can see what kind of hellish weather the crew had to deal with when making the film. Made in the middle of the winter in record breaking bad weather on top of a glacier the crew captured weather conditions they could only dream of and probably couldn't do in post if they had millions of dollars.A young couple, physiologist Agla and filmmaker Gunnar wake up at a glacier drilling camp only to find the camp mysteriously abandoned and their co-workers gone. Yes, I made a bad cold joke in relation to upcoming Icelandic horror film Frost.
