New York magazine went behind the scenes of the filming of Chicago native Jill Soloway’s Amazon pilot “I Love Dick” ahead of next month’s premiere.

The half-hour comedy pilot, an adaptation of Chris Kraus’ 1997 novel of the same name, is about a married couple obsessed with a professor named Dick (played by Kevin Bacon). The pilot, which also stars Chicago-area native Kathryn Hahn, is set to begin streaming on Amazon Prime Aug. 19.

New York described the Texas set as “inclusive, chill and collaborative.” Mobile bathrooms are gender-neutral and Soloway, an alumna of the Annoyance Theatre, climbs on an apple box each morning to give inspirational speeches to the cast and crew.

“We get to play, like children, by making art. Nobody has to worry about getting anything wrong,” said Soloway, who also created the Emmy-winning Amazon series “Transparent.”
