Ivy Tech student creates ambulance logo

The latest addition to the Prompt Ambulance fleet will sport a design commemorating Indiana’s bicentennial, created by a student at Ivy Tech Community College. Celina Kidd, a student in the Design Technology program at Ivy Tech’s Valparaiso campus, drew the artwork, which was selected by Prompt officials out of 10 entries submitted by members of the college’s Vector Imaging class. The vehicle will be unveiled at the Regional EMS Conference taking place from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 16 at Avalon Manor, 3550 U.S. 30, Hobart.

Welcome home event set for injured teen

A meet and greet welcome home event for Austin Antle, a Hobart teen who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a dirt bike accident last October, will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Festival Park Community Center, 111 Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Antle and his family will receive a Hobart police and fire department escort to the community center from the Indiana Botanic Gardens at 3401 W. 37th Ave., Hobart. Antle, 18, has spent the last five months at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

Dunes documentary screening in Valparaiso

The documentary film “Shifting Sands: On the Path to Sustainability” will be screened at 7 p.m. May 16 at a meeting of the Valparaiso Chain of Lakes Watershed Group at the Porter County Administration Building, 155 Indiana Ave., Valparaiso. The film tells the story of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and its development alongside heavy industry. The screening will be followed by a question and answer session and pizza party. Brauer Museum to open summer exhibitions

The Brauer Museum of Art at Valparaiso University presents an Opening Reception for the Summer Exhibitions at 7 p.m. May 20 at the museum, 1709 Chapel Drive, Valparaiso. The free event showcases exhibits including the works by the Area Artists Association of Michigan City, paintings by Frank V. Commissioners Ball to fund animal shelter

Join Porter County Commissioners John Evans, Laura Blandy and Jeff Good at the commissioners Ball from 6:30 to 11 p.m. May 20 at the Porter County Expo Center, 215 Division Road, Valparaiso. All proceeds from the event will be used to purchase equipment for the new county animal shelter. The ball will feature music from Chicago-based Afrodisiacs, who offer a high-energy show withy funky costumes, style and dance moves from the 1970s. The event also includes three buffets of heavy appetizers as well as a dessert bar. A cash bar also will be available. tickets are $75.

Swing for Success Expo set in Merrillville

The Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce presents the Swing for Success Expo 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. May 25 at the Radisson at Star Plaza, 800 E. 81st Ave., Merrillville. Admission is free and the first 200 guests receive an Expo Bag. The event features more than 70 vendors offering food and drink samples, demonstrations, special offers and raffles.
