  • Capitals' T.J. Oshie: Won't play in 2024-25

Oshie will be put on long-term injured reserve due to a chronic back injury that's expected to cost him the entire 2024-25 campaign, per Tom Gulitti of NHL.com on Wednesday.

Oshie had 12 goals and 25 points in 52 regular-season games with Washington in 2023-24. While the possibility of him someday returning to the NHL hasn't been ruled out, Oshie will turn 38 on Dec. 23 and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2025. If he has played in his final game, then he'll be hanging up his skates after scoring 302 goals and 695 points across 1,010 career regular-season contests. He also won the Stanley Cup with Washington in 2018 and played a vital role in that playoff run, supplying eight goals and 21 points in 24 outings.

  • Capitals' Trevor van Riemsdyk: Participating in informal skates

Van Riemsdyk (upper body) was on the ice for Tuesday's informal skate, Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network reports.

Van Riemsdyk looks ready for the start of training camp after missing the Capitals' final postseason matchup with the Rangers in April. Despite logging 70 regular-season contests with Washington last year, the veteran blueliner failed to score for the first time since his rookie campaign in 2014-15 when he was with the Blackhawks. Considering van Riemsdyk has reached the 20-point threshold just once in his NHL career, he can probably be passed over in most fantasy formats.

  • Capitals' Martin Fehervary: Back on ice Friday

Fehervary (undisclosed) took part in Friday's informal skate with his teammates, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.

Fehervary was pulled out of Slovakia's Olympic qualifying events due to a minor injury but seems to be back to 100 percent ahead of training camp. The 24-year-old blueliner has missed the 20-point mark in each of his three NHL seasons but hasn't been able to reach the 70-game mark in either of the prior two campaigns. If he can stay healthy enough to appear in all 82 contests, Fehervary should be able to finally get to that 20-point threshold.

  • Capitals' Martin Fehervary: Not playing in Olympic qualifying

Fehervary will not play for Slovakia at the Olympic qualifying tournament as he is suffering from a nagging minor injury, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports Thursday.

Fehervary stated last week that he would not be available to play for Slovakia if he was less than 100 percent. The 24-year-old has solidified his spot on the Washington blue line, as he has been a regular on the third unit over the last three seasons. Fehervary had three goals, 13 assists, 188 hits and 109 blocked shots in 66 regular-season games in 2023-24. He is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

  • Capitals' Jakub Vrana: Secures tryout

Vrana agreed to terms on a professional tryout agreement with Washington on Thursday.

Vrana saw action in 21 games for the Blues last year in which he notched two goals on 42 shots, four assists and nine hits while averaging 12:08 of ice time. The 28-year-old winger spent parts of five seasons with the Capitals, including the club's Stanley Cup-winning 2017-18 campaign. Heading into the upcoming season, Vrana will likely need to edge out the likes of Michael Sgarbossa or Sonny Milano to secure a permanent NHL deal -- though a two-way contract could also be an option for the Caps if Vrana is willing to go that route.

  • Capitals' Leon Muggli: Loaned to Swiss team

Muggli was loaned to EV Zug of Switzerland's National League on Tuesday.

Muggli notched three goals and 12 points in 42 regular-season contests for EV Zug in 2023-24. He added one goal and one assist in 11 playoff outings. The Capitals selected the 18-year-old defender with the No. 52 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Muggli signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Washington on July 10.

  • Capitals' Leon Muggli: Signs entry-level contract

Muggli signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Capitals on Wednesday, per PuckPedia.

Muggli was drafted 52nd overall in this year's draft. The defenseman is expected to remain with EV Zug in the Swiss National League in 2024-25. He had 12 points in 42 games for that club last season after coming up through the organization's junior system.

  • Capitals' Ludwig Persson: Joining Finnish club

Persson will spend the 2024-25 season on loan with Jukurit (Finland), the club announced Wednesday.

Persson will once again remain overseas rather than coming to North America. Selected by the Capitals in the third round of the 2022 NHL Draft, the 20-year-old winger may be facing an uphill battle to secure an NHL roster spot at some point in the future.

  • Capitals' Cam Allen: Agrees to entry-level contract

Allen signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Washington on Saturday.

Following shoulder surgery last summer, Allen didn't make his 2023-24 debut until late January. He notched two goals and nine points in 25 regular-season outings with OHL Guelph. The 19-year-old defender will probably return to the Storm for the 2024-25 campaign.

  • Capitals' Ilya Protas: Signs entry-level contract

Protas penned a three-year, entry-level contract with the Capitals on Saturday, per CapFriendly.

Washington took Protas with the No. 75 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. He had 14 goals and 37 assists in 61 games with Des Moines of the USHL in 2023-24. Protas could play another season with the Buccaneers or head to OHL Windsor for the 2024-25 campaign after getting a taste of the NHL at training camp with the Capitals.

  • Capitals' Terik Parascak: Secures entry-level deal

Parascak signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Washington on Friday.

Parascak racked up 43 goals and 62 assists in 68 regular-season outings for WHL Prince George last year before adding 14 points in 12 postseason clashes. That productivity led to the Caps to select the 18-year-old winger with the 17th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. Parascak figures to return to juniors for at least one more season but is showing promise to be a full-time NHL contributor in the future.

  • Capitals' Alex Limoges: Signs one-year deal

Limoges inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Capitals on Thursday.

Limoges will earn the NHL minimum $775,000 when on the Capitals roster, and will get $300,000 in the minors. Limoges has yet to play in the NHL. The 26-year-old had 24 goals and 51 points in 62 regular-season contests with AHL Hershey in 2023-24 and chipped in with four goals and nine helpers in 20 playoff games, helping the Bears win the Calder Cup championship. He will get an opportunity to crack the Washington lineup during training camp, but he will likely start the season in Hershey, barring a multitude of injuries.

  • Capitals' Hardy Haman-Aktell: Grabs one-year deal

Haman-Aktell secured a one-year, two-way contract with Washington on Wednesday.

Haman-Aktell saw action in six regular-season games for the Capitals in 2023-24 in which he registered one assist, five shots and 11 hits while averaging 10:38 of ice time. The 25-year-old blueliner wasn't significantly more productive in the minors last year, recording a mere 11 points in 55 regular-season contests -- though he produced well in the AHL playoffs with five goals and four helpers in 17 clashes.

  • Capitals' Riley Sutter: Inks one-year deal

Sutter signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Capitals on Wednesday.

Sutter had nine goals, 23 points and 57 PIM in 66 regular-season AHL games with Hershey in 2023-24. The 24-year-old hasn't made his NHL debut.

  • Capitals' Spencer Smallman: Pens two-way pact

Smallman inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Capitals on Tuesday.

Smallman has yet to make his NHL debut despite having turned pro back in 2017-18. Selected by the Hurricanes in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Draft, the veteran winger seems unlikely to become a full-time NHL option at this point in his career.

  • Capitals' Luke Philp: Snags one-year pact

Philp secured a one-year, two-way contract with Washington on Tuesday.

Philp spent the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign in the minors with AHL Rockford, registering two goals and four assists in just 15 regular-season contests. Given the injury issues last season, the 28-year-old center will likely have to show he's back to 100 percent before earning a potential call-up.

  • Capitals' Taylor Raddysh: Signs one-year deal

Raddysh signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Capitals on Monday.

Raddysh became an unrestricted free agent after the Blackhawks declined to present him with a qualifying offer. The 26-year-old had five goals and 14 points across 73 contests with Chicago last season. Raddysh did have 20 goals and 37 points in 2022-23, so perhaps he can rekindle his scoring touch in his new home. At the same time, he'll likely have to battle to earn even a bottom-six spot.

  • Capitals' Brandon Duhaime: Makes two-year commitment

Duhaime signed a two-year, $3.7 million contract with the Capitals on Monday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Duhaime had five goals, 13 points, 70 PIM and 207 hits in 80 regular-season contests between Minnesota and Colorado last season. The 27-year-old is set to serve on Washington's fourth line in 2024-25.

  • Capitals' Matt Roy: Locks into six-year agreement

Roy signed a six-year, $34.5 million contract with the Capitals on Monday, per Chris Johnston of The Athletic.

Roy had five goals, 25 points, a plus-21 rating, 42 PIM, 152 hits and 197 blocked shots in 81 regular-season games with the Kings in 2023-24. As you'd suspect given the size of Roy's contract, the 29-year-old will likely serve in a top-four capacity, but the Capitals do have significant depth on the blue line now between Roy, Jakob Chychrun, Martin Fehervary, Rasmus Sandin, John Carlson, Trevor van Riemsdyk and Ethan Bear. It will be interesting to see how the Capitals' defensive situation shakes out, but this contract assures Roy will see a significant shutdown role.
