  • Lightning's Conor Geekie: Hoping to win job with big club

Geekie had a strong rookie camp and heads into the Lightning training camp hoping to win a job with the big club.

The Bolts haven't had a prospect of Geekie's caliber in years, and the hype train is gathering steam. He has size and skill, and the Bolts will need him to step into a role sooner rather than later. The tale of training camp will determine if Geekie suits up for the Lightning or heads off to the AHL.

  • Lightning's Jack Finley: Out until December

Finley is dealing with an undisclosed injury and isn't expected to be ready to play until December, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports Wednesday.

Finley had 13 goals and 32 points in 52 contests with AHL Syracuse in 2023-24. The 22-year-old is expected to play in the minors once he's healthy.

  • Lightning's Gabriel Fortier: Underwent offseason surgery

Fortier underwent surgery during the offseason and will be unavailable until December, per Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com on Wednesday.

Fortier had 13 goals and 26 points in 62 regular-season contests with AHL Syracuse in 2023-24. Once the 24-year-old is healthy, he'll probably play in the minors, though Fortier might get a chance to serve with Tampa Bay at some point before the end of the campaign.

  • Lightning's Michael Eyssimont: Targeting mid-October return

Eyssimont (lower-body) is not expected to return to action until mid-October, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports Wednesday.

At a minimum, Eyssimont shouldn't be expected to suit up for Opening Night against Carolina on Oct. 11, though he could miss closer to 4-5 games depending on his recovery. Without Eyssimont in the lineup, either Mitchell Chaffee or Zemgus Girgensons could start the season on the third line in addition to taking Eyssimont's spot with the No. 2 power-play unit.

  • Lightning's Luke Glendening: Battling undisclosed injury

Glendening will be limited during training camp due to an undisclosed injury, but might be ready for the start of the regular season, per Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com on Wednesday.

Glendening had 10 goals, 11 points, 39 PIM, 121 hits and 53 blocks in 81 regular-season contests with the Lightning in 2023-24. He'll likely start the campaign on the fourth line if he's healthy.

  • Lightning's Michael Eyssimont: Hampered by lower-body injury

Eyssimont is dealing with a lower-body injury that will limit him at the start of training camp, Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times reports Wednesday.

Eyssimont is coming off a career year in 2023-24 during which he played in a career-best 81 games while also registering personal bests in goals (11), assists (14) and shots (149). The 28-year-old Colorado native should be in the mix for power-play minutes with the No. 2 group this season -- assuming his lower-body injury doesn't sideline him for too long.

  • Lightning's Logan Brown: Rejoins Tampa on PTO

Brown (hip) signed a professional tryout agreement with the Lightning on Wednesday, Andy Strickland of Bally Sports Midwest reports.

Per Strickland, Brown has been training with Blues forward Jordan Kyrou and is fully recovered from a hip surgery that cost him all of the 2023-24 campaign. Brown previously signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Lightning in July of 2023, but he'll have to prove his health in training camp to get a look on a full contract with the club this time around.

  • Lightning's J.J. Moser: Inks two-year contract

Moser signed a two-year, $6.75 million contract with the Lightning on Thursday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Moser was recently dealt to Tampa Bay with Conor Geekie, a 2025 second-round pick and a 2024 seventh-round pick (Noah Steen) for Mikhail Sergachev. Moser had five goals, 21 assists, 99 hits and 112 blocked shots in 80 regular-season appearances for the Coyotes in 2023-24. Look for Moser to be a second-pairing blueliner with Tampa Bay next season.

  • Lightning's Cam Atkinson: Secures one-year deal

Atkinson signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with Tampa Bay on Tuesday.

After missing the entirety of the 2022-23 season due to injuries, Atkinson generated 13 goals and 28 points in 70 regular-season contests with the Flyers in 2023-24. Philadelphia bought Atkinson out of the final campaign of his seven-year, $41.125 million contract in June. However, he has some bounce-back upside as a middle-six forward option for the Lightning. He could also receive a role on the second power-play unit.

  • Lightning's Emil Lilleberg: Secures two-year extension

Lilleberg penned a two-year, $1.6 million contract extension with the Lightning on Tuesday.

Perhaps most noteworthy is the fact that Lilleberg's new deal is a one-way contract, which makes it harder to move him between the NHL and AHL once his new deal begins in 2025-26. For now, the 23-year-old defenseman will likely continue dividing his time between levels, though the free-agency departure of Calvin de Haan should open up a spot on the blue line.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Inks four-year extension

Hedman agreed to terms on a four-year, $32 million contract extension with Tampa Bay on Tuesday.

Hedman has one year remaining on his current deal, which means he is tied to the Lightning through the 2028-29 campaign. There's no doubt the Bolts' front office will hope this softens the blow with the fan base after Steven Stamkos was allowed to depart in free agency Monday. The 33-year-old Hedman is coming off a bounce-back year in which he topped the 75-point threshold for just the second time in his career. Heading into the 2024-25 campaign, Hedman figures to remain among the elite defensemen in the NHL, providing top-end fantasy value as the No. 1 power-play quarterback.

  • Lightning's Zemgus Girgensons: Lands three-year deal

Girgensons signed a three-year, $2.55 million contract with Tampa Bay on Monday.

Girgensons spent the first 10 years of his career in Buffalo, totaling 188 points and 1,239 hits through 688 games. Last year, he scored 14 points while laying out 141 hits and averaging 11:51 of ice time through 63 games. The veteran forward will provide a bottom-six option for the Lightning.

  • Lightning's Steve Santini: Pens one-year pact

Santini inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Lightning on Monday.

Santini appeared to be on the cusp of becoming a full-time NHL player when he was with the Devils but has played in just nine NHL contests over the last five years, with none of those appearances coming in 2023-24. At this stage of his career, the blueliner is likely more of an emergency depth option for the Bolts with the main goal of serving as a veteran leader for AHL Syracuse.

  • Lightning's Tobie Bisson: Inks two-way deal

Bisson signed a one-year, two-way contract with Tampa Bay on Monday.

Bisson collected nine goals, 27 points and 59 PIM in 69 regular-season appearances with AHL Laval in 2023-24. The 27-year-old blueliner doesn't have any NHL experience. Bisson will likely begin the 2024-25 campaign in the minors.

  • Lightning's Derrick Pouliot: Inks one-year deal

Pouliot signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Lightning on Monday.

Pouliot had nine goals, 46 points and 59 PIM in 64 regular-season contests with AHL Texas in 2023-24. He also appeared in five regular-season outings with Dallas, but he didn't record a point over that stretch. The 30-year-old is likely to start 2024-25 in the minors, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him summoned to the NHL at some point during the campaign as an injury replacement.

  • Lightning's Jesse Ylonen: Heading south

Ylonen signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Lightning on Monday, per Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times.

Ylonen became an unrestricted free agent after Montreal decided against making him a qualifying offer. The 24-year-old had four goals, eight points, 41 hits and 32 blocked shots in 59 regular-season contests in 2023-24. Ylonen should be in the conservation for a fourth-line spot with the Lightning.
