Pesce missed Carolina's final nine playoff games due to a fractured fibula. He signed a six-year, $33 million contract with the Devils over the summer. When healthy, Pesce is likely to serve in a top-four capacity, though he probably won't receive much, if any, power-play ice time.

Lazar (upper body) is healthy at training camp Thursday, according to Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site.
Lazar is expected to be a fourth-line winger with the Devils. He had the best offensive season in his career in 2023-24, scoring seven goals and adding 18 assists in 71 games, as New Jersey failed to make the playoffs. Look for a 20-25 point season from Lazar in 2024-25.

Devils' Timo Meier: Healthy at training camp
Meier (shoulder surgery) is practicing at training camp Thursday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Meier picked up 28 goals and 52 points in 69 regular-season appearances last year. He was hurt throughout the campaign, and the Devils are hoping that he can get back to the 40-goal mark in a healthy season.

Devils' Jack Hughes: On the ice Thursday
Hughes (shoulder surgery) is practicing on the top line at the first day of training camp Thursday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Hughes missed 20 games with shoulder woes in 2023-24, as he was out of action on three separate occasions. Hughes had surgery in April, which allowed him to get ready for the upcoming season. The talented 23-year-old had 27 goals, and 47 assists -- including 31 points on the power play -- in 62 regular-season appearances last season. He could hit the 100-point mark this season, if he remains healthy.

Devils' Dawson Mercer: Won't report to camp
Mercer will not be available for the start of training camp due to his ongoing contract dispute, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports Wednesday.
Mercer and the Devils are reportedly close to a new deal but until the restricted free agent is signed, he won't be able to get onto the ice with his teammates. Once he puts pen to paper, the 22-year-old natural center should be in the mix for a top-six role, though he could face a strong challenge from Tomas Tatar for a second-line spot.

Welinski agreed to a professional tryout agreement with New Jersey on Monday.
Weliniski contributed three goals and 10 points in 35 AHL regular-season outings between Iowa and Charlotte in 2023-24. The 31-year-old blueliner has one goal and five helpers in 46 career NHL appearances. He likely won't crack New Jersey's roster out of training camp but could earn a two-way deal if he impresses during the preseason.

Labanc (undisclosed) signed a professional tryout agreement with New Jersey on Monday.
Labanc accounted for two goals, seven assists, 60 shots on net and 61 hits across 46 regular-season appearances with San Jose in 2023-24. He was a healthy scratch frequently last campaign and missed a couple of games down the stretch due to injury, but he will compete for a bottom-six spot in the lineup during New Jersey's training camp.

Devils' Luke Hughes: Suffers shoulder injury
Hughes is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after suffering a left shoulder injury but will not require surgery, the club announced Thursday.
Even on the short end of his injury timeline, Hughes figures to miss the opening 10 games of the season at a minimum, making him a strong candidate to start the campaign on long-term injured reserve. The 21-year-old blueliner avoided injury as a rookie last year, featuring in all 82 regular-season contests in which he tallied nine goals and 38 helpers, including 25 power-play points. With Hughes out of action for the start of the season, Dougie Hamilton will almost certainly move up to the No. 1 power-play unit while Jakub Zboril, who comes into camp on a PTO, could earn his way into a full-time deal.

Filmon is considered week-to-week after sustaining an upper-body injury, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports Thursday.
Filmon was unlikely to make the Devils' Opening Night roster regardless of his injury, but it could impact his opportunities with AHL Utica at the start of the 2024-25 campaign. The 20-year-old winger notched 27 goals and 40 assists in 64 games for WHL Swift Current last year and could earn his NHL debut if he shows that scoring touch in the minors with the Comets this year.

Devils' Michael Hutchinson: Signs professional tryout agreement
Hutchinson inked a professional tryout agreement with the Devils on Thursday.
Hutchinson has been a journeyman goaltender, seeing NHL action with Winnipeg, Florida, Toronto, Colorado, Columbus and Detroit over his 11-year career. He gave up three goals on 36 shots in his lone game with the Red Wings in 2023-24 and was saddled with the loss in New Jersey. Hutchinson will attempt to make the Devils as a third goaltender, as New Jersey has Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen firmly entrenched as their top-two goaltenders.

Devils' Jakub Zboril: Signs PTO with Devils
Zboril signed a professional tryout agreement with New Jersey on Thursday.
Zboril has been a disappointment since he was selected 13th overall in 2015 by the Bruins. The 27-year-old has appeared in only 76 NHL regular-season games, scoring once and adding 15 assists. Zboril spent the 2023-24 season in the minors, picking up 13 assists in 46 AHL games split between Cleveland and Providence. Should Zboril make the Devils out of training camp, he will be a depth defenseman.

Devils' Nolan Foote: Inks one-year deal
Foote agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with the Devils on Monday.
Foote has struggled to break into the NHL over the last four seasons, logging a combined 23 contests for New Jersey in which he recorded six goals, 25 shots on net and two assists. With his new deal being a two-way contract, it seems Foote remains a fringe roster option heading into the 2024-25 campaign. If he can force his way onto the Opening Night roster, Foote has shown flashes of offensive upside, but fantasy managers will likely need to take a wait-and-see approach with the 23-year-old.

Devils' Nico Daws: Pens two-year deal
Daws inked a two-year contract with New Jersey on Tuesday.
Daws' contract is a two-way deal in year one before it converts to a one-way in the second season. It's an unsurprising clause when you consider the team has both Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen under contract for the upcoming 2024-25 campaign. Look for Daws to spend nearly the entire season in the minors with AHL Utica -- unless Markstrom or Allen picks up an injury at some point.

Hatakka signed a one-year, two-way contract with New Jersey on Monday.
Hatakka notched five goals and 20 points in 48 regular-season appearances with AHL Utica in 2023-24. He also contributed two assists, 12 shots on goal, 12 blocked shots and 14 hits in 12 NHL outings with the Devils last campaign. The 23-year-old defender will battle for a depth spot during New Jersey's training camp but may spend most of 2024-25 in the minors.

Squires inked a three-year, entry-level contract with the Devils on Friday.
Squires was selected in the fourth round -- 122nd overall -- in the 2023 Draft. The 19-year-old had 33 goals and 72 points in 66 QMJHL regular-season games with Cape Breton in 2023-24 and had an outstanding postseason, picking up nine goals and 20 points in 14 appearances. He will likely spend another season at the junior level before heading to the minors for the 2025-26 season.

Devils' Adam Beckman: Receives two-way contract
Beckman signed a one-year, two-way contract with New Jersey on Monday.
Beckman notched 19 goals and 33 points in 51 regular-season outings for AHL Iowa in 2023-24. He also had two assists, 10 shots on goal and 13 hits in 11 NHL appearances with Minnesota this past campaign. The Wild traded Beckman to the Devils on June 21 in exchange for Graeme Clarke. The 23-year-old Beckman will likely start 2024-25 in the minors.

Devils' Dougie Hamilton: Ready for 2024-25
Hamilton has fully recovered from his pectoral injury, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports Wednesday.
Hamilton didn't play past Nov. 28 because of the injury. He underwent surgery for a torn pectoral muscle Dec. 1 and was placed on long-term injured reserve Jan. 25. Having Hamilton healthy for the 2024-25 campaign will give the Devils a big boost. He excelled in 2022-23 with 22 goals and 74 points in 82 regular-season contests and recorded at least 30 points in nine consecutive campaigns before being limited to 20 contests in 2024-25. If not for the injury, he would have almost certainly extended the streak -- he already had five goals and 16 points last season before getting hurt.

Devils' Tomas Tatar: Pens one-year contract
Tatar signed a one-year, $1.8 million contract with New Jersey on Tuesday.
Tatar accounted for nine goals, 24 points and 72 shots on net in 70 regular-season contests between Seattle and Colorado in 2023-24. He played for the Devils for two campaigns before signing with the Avalanche, which includes a 20-goal and 48-point showing over 82 regular-season outings in 2022-23. However, he is unlikely to reach those marks in 2024-25 as a depth forward for New Jersey.
