  • Jets' Jamien Sherwood: Will have larger role vs. Pats

Sherwood will start at middle linebacker and be the Jets' signal-caller on defense against the Patriots on Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

C.J. Mosley was ruled out ahead of Thursday's game due to a toe injury he sustained in Week 2 against the Titans. Sherwood stepped into a larger role in Mosley's absence Sunday, and he will be tasked with relaying play calls to the Jets' defense for Thursday's AFC East matchup. The 2021 fifth-round pick has accrued 16 tackles (11 solo) and one pass deflection over the first two games of the regular season.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Ruled out vs. Patriots

Mosley (toe) is inactive for Thursday's game against New England.

Mosley was unable to practice Wednesday, and although he has played through injuries before, his toe issue will prevent him from suiting up Thursday. Jamien Sherwood will slide into the starting middle linebacker spot and be the Jets' defensive signal caller, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com.

  • Jets' Jermaine Johnson: Officially placed on IR

The Jets placed Johnson (Achilles) on injured reserve Thursday.

Johnson is done for the year after suffering a torn right Achilles' tendon in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Titans, so his placement on IR doesn't come as a surprise. The standout defensive end's injury takes on particular severity for New York due to edge rusher Haason Reddick's ongoing holdout, but for the time being, Will McDonald and Micheal Clemons appear primed to start at defensive end Thursday versus the Patriots. Johnson will turn his full attention toward making a recovery for the 2025 season.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Officially questionable for Week 3

Mosley (toe) did not practice Wednesday and is officially listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Patriots, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.

Mosley boasts enough NFL experience to reliably play without practicing, so his status will likely come down to how well his sprained right big toe holds up during pregame warmups. If the veteran linebacker were to miss any time, Jamien Sherwood would likely step in as the Jets' signal-caller on defense.

  • Jets' D.J. Reed: Cleared from injury report

Reed (knee) was a full participant during practice Wednesday.

Reed has been dealing with a lingering knee issue that he was able to play through in Week 1, but it kept him sidelined for Week 2. His ability to log a full practice Wednesday should put him in line to start Thursday against the Patriots; however, it may be worth noting he practiced in full last Friday before deciding he couldn't play against the Titans during pregame warmups.
