  • Chargers' Hayden Hurst: Limited in practice again

Hurst (ankle) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.

Hurst has now logged back-to-back limited practice sessions due to an ankle injury. He's been targeted a combined five times while playing above 50 percent of offensive snaps in each of the Chargers' first regular-season games, but he ran routes on 76 percent of Justin Herbert's dropbacks Week 2 versus Carolina. If Hurst can practice in at least a limited capacity again Friday, it will bode well for his chances of suiting up Sunday on the road against Pittsburgh.

  • Chargers' Justin Herbert: Limited in return to practice

Herbert (ankle) was listed as a limited practice participant Thursday.

After logging a 'DNP' on Wednesday, Herbert's return to a limited session a day later has him trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Steelers. Per Kris Rhim of ESPN.com, the QB appeared to have his right ankle heavily taped Thursday, so it remains to be seen if Herbert will be able to upgrade to full participation Friday. If that doesn't occur, he'd be likely to head into the weekend with a Week 3 injury designation.

  • Chargers' Joshua Palmer: Misses Thursday's practice

Palmer (calf/elbow) did not practice Thursday.

Palmer played through a knee issue during the Chargers' win over the Panthers in Week 2, but he's now missed consecutive practices while being listed with two new injuries. He was at least present for Thursday's session, with Daniel Popper of The Athletic noting that Palmer was working out off to the side. Palmer will still need to upgrade to at least limited practice participation Friday in the Chargers' final session of the week to have a chance at playing Sunday in Pittsburgh.

  • Chargers' Justin Herbert: At practice Thursday

Herbert (ankle) is present for Thursday's practice, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.

Herbert was listed as a non-participant Wednesday, so his presence at the start of Thursday's session is seemingly a positive sign ahead of Sunday's game against the Steelers. The Chargers' second Week 3 injury report will be released later Thursday and will clarify the extent of the quarterback's practice participation.

  • Chargers' Cameron Dicker: Misses first PAT of his career

Dicker made both of his field-goal attempts but missed one of three extra-point tries in Sunday's 26-3 win over the Panthers.

Dicker missed the first point-after attempt of his NFL career on the Chargers' opening drive touchdown. He was perfect afterward though, making field goals from 46 and 42 yards out, while also making the PATs on the team's other two touchdowns.

  • Chargers' Ja'Sir Taylor: Can't practice Wednesday

Taylor (fibula) did not practice Wednesday.

Taylor managed to play through his leg injury during the Chargers' win over the Raiders in Week 2, in which he handled 81 percent of defensive snaps. His absence in practice Wednesday could be partially to facilitate rest, but the starting slot cornerback's participation level will need to be monitored. Los Angeles has two official practices remaining ahead Sunday's game against the Steelers.

  • Chargers' Alohi Gilman: Limited in Wednesday's practice

Gilman (knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.

Gilman missed the Chargers' win over the Raiders in Week 2 due to a knee injury, and he wasn't able to practice in any capacity leading up to the game. It's encouraging to see him back in action in at least a limited capacity heading into a road matchup against the Steelers on Sunday. The starting safety will have two more opportunities to upgrade his practice level before Los Angeles tags him with an official injury designation for the weekend.

  • Chargers' Hayden Hurst: Limited by ankle injury

Hurst was a limited practice participant Wednesday due to an ankle injury.

Hurst was quiet in Sunday's 26-3 win over Carolina, catching one of two targets for five yards on 52 percent snap share, but he ran routes on 76 percent of Justin Herbert's dropbacks, the second-highest rate on the team (behind wideout Quentin Johnston's 90 percent). Hurst's ability to practice Wednesday -- even in a limited capacity -- suggests he's more likely than not to play this Sunday in Pittsburgh.

  • Chargers' Joshua Palmer: Dealing with new injuries

Palmer didn't practice Wednesday due to elbow and calf injuries.

Palmer is listed with a new pair of injuries after being questionable last week due to a problem with his knee. He ended up playing in Sunday's 26-3 win over the Panthers, catching both of his targets for 19 yards while playing only 41 percent of snap on offense. It's possible his role will be scaled back again if he ends up playing this Sunday at Pittsburgh.

  • Chargers' Justin Herbert: Misses practice

    Herbert (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday.

Herbert had a "significant limp" after Sunday's 26-3 win over the Panthers, although he didn't miss any snaps after injuring his right ankle in the third quarter, per Kris Rhim of ESPN.com. Head coach Jim Harbaugh declined to comment on Herbert's chances of playing this Sunday at Pittsburgh, merely saying that Herbert is already "feeling much better," while adding that Easton Stick is the next man up to start at quarterback.

  • Chargers' Justin Herbert: Not seen at practice

Herbert (ankle) wasn't spotted on the field during the media-access portion of Wednesday's practice, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.

Per Popper, Herbert's injury is to his right ankle, the same leg as the plantar fascia injury that the quarterback dealt with in training camp. Meanwhile, head coach Jim Harbaugh told Kris Rhim of ESPN.com that Herbert was feeling a lot better Wednesday, while acknowledging that Easton Stick would be in line to fill in Sunday against the Steelers if Herbert doesn't progress enough this week to be available for the contest.
