  • Rangers' Kumar Rocker: Control issues in second start

Rocker (0-1) took the loss Thursday, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and four walks across three innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out five.

Rocker's second start was a bit rockier than his first, needing 71 pitches to complete three frames. He struck out five but also allowed five free passes including four via bases on balls and a fifth coming by way of a hit-by-pitch. Despite his control trouble, his one earned run allowed was scored without allowing a hit and the second run allowed came off of a throwing error. The highly-touted rookie has allowed one earned run in each of his first two outings spanning seven innings and is set to make one more start to close out the season, coming in a road matchup against either the Athletics or the Angels.

  • Rangers' Kumar Rocker: Expected to get start next week

Rocker is expected to make another start for the Rangers during the final week of the season, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Rocker will make his second major-league start Thursday versus the Blue Jays after he struck out seven and allowed one run over four innings in his major-league debut last week against the Mariners. The Rangers are currently working with a six-man rotation and could expand to seven if they choose to give Jack Leiter another start. There's also Rocker's workload to consider in his first year back from Tommy John surgery. However, it sounds like Thursday's outing versus Seattle will not be his final one of the season. Rocker will face either the Athletics or the Angels on the road next week.

  • Rangers' Carson Kelly: Entering lineup Thursday

Kelly will start at catcher and bat eighth in Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.

Texas will make room in the lineup for both of its catchers Thursday, as top backstop Jonah Heim will get a day off behind the plate and serve as the Rangers' designated hitter. Even though Heim sits atop the depth chart, Kelly has still received a fair amount of playing time by the standards of No. 2 catchers since he was acquired from the Tigers on July 28. In 26 games with Texas, Kelly has slashed .250/.308/.333 with one home run, seven RBI and 10 runs.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Receiving Thursday off

Jung is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.

Jung will get a breather for Thursday's day game after he went 1-for-7 with a walk and a run while starting the first two contests of the series with Toronto. Ezequiel Duran will step in for Jung at third base.

  • Rangers' Adolis Garcia: Responsible for win

Garcia went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Blue Jays.

Garcia's homer in the sixth inning produced the game's only runs. He's batting just .196 with a .656 OPS during September, but Garcia has been an effective run producer. The slugger has knocked in 16 runs over 15 games this month and is up to 80 RBI for the season.

  • Rangers' Kirby Yates: Locks down 31st save

Yates picked up the save over Toronto on Wednesday, striking out two over a perfect ninth inning.

Yates took over for David Robertson to start the ninth with the Rangers up 2-0 and got Vladimir Guerrero to go down on strikes in the opening at-bat. The veteran reliever then needed nine pitches to get through the final two batters and log his 31st save of the campaign. Yates has converted all six of his save opportunities in September and hasn't allowed a run since Aug. 29 against the White Sox. He's also recorded multiple strikeouts in two of his last three appearances.

  • Rangers' Cody Bradford: Hurls seven-inning gem

Bradford (6-3) picked up the win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday, allowing five hits and no walks over seven scoreless frames while striking out six.

Bradford had a no-hitter going through the first four innings before Alejandro Kirk tagged him for a single to lead off the fifth. The southpaw would get through the frame unscathed, however, and allowed just two batters to reach second base during his seven innings on the mound. It marked Bradford's second time this season in which he held the opposing team scoreless through six or more frames, and he's now posted quality starts in six of his last seven outings. He's 2-1 through three starts in September with a 4.86 ERA to go along with a 14:2 K:BB.

  • Rangers' Emiliano Teodo: Returns to action for Frisco

Teodo was reinstated from Double-A Frisco's developmental list Saturday. He turned in a scoreless appearance against Amarillo, striking out two and issuing one walk over one inning.

After being held out of action for three months while he was on the development list, Teodo returned for one final appearance before Frisco's season ended. The 23-year-old righty made 20 appearances (19 starts) for the Double-A club in 2024, logging a 1.98 ERA and 110:50 K:BB across 86.1 innings.

  • Rangers' Jacob Latz: Activated, optioned to Triple-A

The Rangers reinstated Latz (forearm) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday and optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock.

Forearm tightness has kept Latz on the shelf since early August. He gave up five earned runs over one-third of an inning during his first rehab outing Aug. 18, but he's since allowed just two runs across 7.2 frames in the minors. The Rangers will keep him at Triple-A for now, though there's still a chance he rejoins the big squad to help out Texas' bullpen over the final few weeks of the season.

  • Rangers' Jonah Heim: Plates two in win

Heim went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, two RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 13-8 win over Toronto.

Heim's two-run single in the sixth inning was the go-ahead hit in a wild back-and-forth game. Similar to years past, the second half of the season hasn't been kind to Heim (career .570 OPS post All-Star break). He entered the game 1-for-32 during September, and the lack of second-half production has cost him at-bats, as Carson Kelly has cut into Heim's playing time since being acquired at the trade deadline. Heim has 101 plate appearances since the beginning of August compared to Kelly's 88.

  • Rangers' Adolis Garcia: Drives in three in win

Garcia went 2-for-4 with two walks, three RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 13-8 win over the Blue Jays.

Garcia delivered a pair of runs in the Rangers' five-run fourth inning and then walked with the bases loaded in the eighth to produce the final run. He's batting just .192 (10-for-52) with seven walks during September. However, Garcia's hits have been timely with runners on base; he's knocked in 14 runs over 14 games, his most in any month since April when he had 21 RBI in 26 contests.

  • Rangers' Josh Smith: Picks up 10th steal

Smith went 1-for-4 with a walk, one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 13-8 win over the Blue Jays.

Smith's steal was his 10th of the season. He's swiped two of those bags over 14 games in September while batting a poor .208 (11-for-53) for the month. Smith continues to see steady time at shortstop since Corey Seager (hip/sports hernia) was shut down for the year. Smith has a .260/.343/.396 slash line with 12 home runs, 57 RBI and 62 runs scored over 139 contests.

  • Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Huge performance Tuesday

Langford went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, two walks, two RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's 13-8 win over the Blue Jays.

Langford has impressed in September, going 20-for-58 (.345) across 15 contests. He's added four homers, 12 RBI, 15 runs scored and three stolen bases in that span. The rookie outfielder has struggled at times this year, but his recent play is an encouraging reminder of what he can bring to the table. Langford is slashing .254/.324/.405 with 12 homers, 15 steals, 66 RBI and 64 runs scored across 123 contests.

  • Rangers' Leody Taveras: Fills box score in win

Taveras went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, a stolen base and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 13-8 win over the Blue Jays.

Taveras has homered in two of his last three contests after going 33 games without a long ball. While he's shown a little more power recently, he's still just 8-for-32 (.250) with three extra-base hits over 12 contests in September. The 26-year-old outfielder has 11 homers, 20 steals, 43 RBI, 55 runs scored and a .229/.287/.354 slash line across 141 games while maintaining a starting role in center field.

  • Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Lit up in no-decision

Eovaldi allowed seven runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

The two teams traded rallies in the contest -- Eovaldi was tagged for four runs in the fifth inning just after the Rangers had established a lead. This was one of Eovaldi's worst performances of the year, as the seven runs and 11 hits allowed were both season highs. His ERA is up to 3.96 with a 1.13 WHIP and 154:38 K:BB through 156.2 innings over 27 starts. He posted four straight quality starts from Aug. 17 to Sept. 4, but he's struggled in two straight outings. He'll look to get back on track in his next projected start, which is expected to be in Oakland with the Rangers seemingly shifting to a six-man rotation to close out the campaign.

  • Rangers' Ezequiel Duran: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Duran is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Duran started the previous three games but will sit Tuesday while in the midst of a 1-for-15 slump. Justin Foscue will bat ninth as the designated hitter versus Toronto righty Chris Bassitt.
