Reds' Julian Aguiar: Rough day vs. Atlanta
Aguiar (2-1) took the loss Thursday against Atlanta, allowing seven runs on six hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out four.
Aguiar had been on a solid run coming into Thursday's outing, allowing five runs on just seven hits in his last three starts (13.2 innings). However, the rookie right-hander ran into a hot Atlanta lineup, as he was charged with a season-high seven runs in his first big-league loss. The 23-year-old Aguiar now sports a 6.25 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 19:12 K:BB through his first 31.2 innings. He's currently lined up for a road matchup with Cleveland next week in what'll likely be his final start of the season.

Reds' Blake Dunn: Homer, two steals Thursday
Dunn went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, two stolen bases and three total runs scored in Thursday's 15-3 loss to Atlanta.
It was a rough day for the Reds overall, though Dunn provided a bright spot -- the 26-year-old outfielder swiped his first two bases in the majors before swatting his first big-league homer, a 422-foot blast off Chris Sale. Dunn had gone just 2-for-21 in 16 games prior to Thursday. He'll likely fill a bench role for Cincinnati over the final week of the season.

Reds' Will Benson: On bench, but over finger injury
Benson (finger) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta.
Benson hasn't made a start since being removed from a Sept. 12 game against the Cardinals with a left middle finger injury, but he's appeared off the bench in two contests since then and appears to have moved past the issue. The 26-year-old hasn't been a regular in the Cincinnati lineup in September and will likely see sparse playing time heading into the final week of the season.

Reds' Jake Fraley: Taking seat versus Sale
Fraley is absent from the lineup in Thursday's contest versus Atlanta.
Southpaw Chris Sale is on the bump for Atlanta, so Fraley will begin the game on the bench. Amed Rosario will patrol right field for the Reds in Thursday's series finale.

Reds' Casey Legumina: Sent down to minors
The Reds optioned Legumina to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.
Legumina went 1.2 innings and threw 36 pitches out of the bullpen in Wednesday's loss to Atlanta. The Reds are replacing him with a fresh arm in Yosver Zulueta, who was summoned from Louisville.

Reds' Jakob Junis: Gets no support
Junis didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against Atlanta, allowing one run on two hits with no walks across six innings. He struck out six.
Junis retired the first 11 batters and final nine batters he faced during the start, but back-to-back doubles in the fourth inning threw a wrench in his otherwise perfect day. In his last five outings (four starts), Junis has a 1.14 ERA and an 18:1 K:BB across 23.2 innings. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Guardians in Cleveland his next time out.

Reds' Andrew Abbott: Could return from IL next week
Abbott (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, MLB.com reports.
The side session was Abbott's second since he landed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 23 with a left shoulder strain. Abbott is expected to face hitters in live batting practice this weekend, and if all goes well, he could return from the IL next week to make one final appearance before the end of the regular season. Given that he'll have missed more than a month and won't have the benefit of making a minor-league appearance beforehand if he's activated, Abbott is expected to be limited to a relief role.

Reds' Brandon Williamson: Requires Tommy John surgery
Williamson said Wednesday that he has a full UCL tear in his left elbow and will require Tommy John surgery, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Williamson's comments came shortly after the Reds placed him on the 15-day injured list earlier Wednesday. The southpaw had been on the shelf for most of the season due to a shoulder problem, but he avoided surgery and was cleared to make his 2024 debut for the Reds on Sept. 1 after making just one rehab start. He produced a 3.77 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 12:5 K:BB across 14.1 innings in four starts with the Reds before he ultimately strained his elbow in Tuesday's 6-5 win over Atlanta. A date for Williamson's elbow surgery hasn't been set, but he'll miss the entire 2025 season while he embarks on an arduous rehab process.

Reds' Brandon Leibrandt: Rejoins major-league club
The Reds recalled Leibrandt from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.
He'll provide length in the bullpen after the Reds' relief corps needed to cover 7.2 innings in Tuesday's win over Atlanta upon Brandon Williamson's exit due to an elbow injury. Leibrandt had one scoreless relief appearance for the Reds last month.

Reds' Brandon Williamson: Done for season with strained elbow
The Reds placed Williamson on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a left elbow strain.
Williamson exited his start Tuesday against Atlanta because of the injury, and it has now officially ended his season. The left-hander also missed much of the campaign with a Bennett lesion in his left shoulder, ultimately opting to treat that injury with injections rather than surgery. It's not clear at this point whether an offseason operation for either injury might be on the table.

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Helps in comeback win
Marte went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-5 win over Atlanta.
Marte contributed to the Reds' comeback from a 5-1 deficit with his sixth-inning double that plated two (one came home on a throwing error). He then stole his ninth bag of the season. It's been a down year for Marte, who never developed any sustained success at the plate after serving an 80-game suspension, but he's in the midst of an encouraging stretch, having gone 7-for-25 (.280) with four RBI and three steals over the last seven contests.

Reds' Spencer Steer: Reaches 20-homer mark
Steer went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Tuesday's 6-5 win over Atlanta.
Steer's two-run shot in the seventh inning proved to be the game-winning knock, as Cincinnati completed the comeback from a 5-1 deficit. The home run was Steer's 20th, marking the second consecutive year he's crossed that threshold and giving him his first 20-20 season.
