  • Mariners' Ryan Bliss: Returns to Triple-A

The Mariners optioned Bliss to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.

The 24-year-old was called up by Seattle on Wednesday but will return to the minors due to Julio Rodriguez (ankle) being activated from the injured list. Bliss has played in 33 big-league games this season and has a .687 OPS and 31 percent strikeout rate in 71 plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Ryan Bliss: Opens scoring with homer

Bliss went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 6-0 win over the Mets.

Bliss opened the scoring in the second inning, with the long ball being his first major-league hit since June 22. The infielder primarily looks to be a backup to Jorge Polanco at second base, so there's no guarantee Bliss will get steady at-bats even against southpaws. For the season, he's slashing .222/.290/397 with two homers, nine RBI, 10 runs scored and five stolen bases over 71 plate appearances in the majors, in addition to a hearty .846 OPS over 62 contests at Triple-A Tacoma.

  • Mariners' Ryan Bliss: Back in majors

The Mariners recalled Bliss from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.

Bliss has been on a hot streak since he returned to Triple-A in late July, slashing .308/.373/.538 with three homers and 12 RBI across 12 games. He'll now rejoin the MLB squad to give Seattle additional infield depth, replacing Cade Marlowe, who was optioned to Tacoma in a corresponding move.

  • Mariners' Ryan Bliss: Hitting well in minors

Bliss owns a .308 average and .911 OPS with three doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI, five walks, seven stolen bases and seven runs over the 59 plate appearances he's logged with Triple-A Tacoma since being optioned July 22.

Bliss had his moments during his near-two-month-long big-league stint earlier this season, posting a .220 average and .648 OPS across 67 plate appearances over 31 games. The 24-year-old is still striking out a similarly elevated level with the Rainiers -- he sports a 30.5 percent strikeout rate during his current minor-league tenure and produced a 31.3 percent figure in Seattle -- but as his numbers indicate, Bliss is boasting an extremely well-rounded offensive profile while benefiting from the Pacific Coast League's hitter-friendly conditions. There remains a possibility Bliss gets a September promotion, especially considering his defensive versatility.
