UPDATED:

The union representing Bucks County workers, including at the county 911 center, will go on strike Friday.

SEIU 668 announced in a news release Thursday that after more than a year of contract negotiations, hundreds of Bucks County workers are expected to go on strike.

The union said that the county has insisted on large cuts to workers’ health benefits, and that the last contract was rejected, with 99% voting no. Workers notified the county last week that they intended to strike.

Outside of 911 workers, the union represents workers with the county’s children and youth services, area agency on aging, the IT department, as well as mental health, drug and alcohol support, early intervention and development programs, according to the release.

County administration said it is prepared for the strike.

“The County is aware of the planned one-day work stoppage and has arranged for supervisors to fill in for striking staff Friday to ensure the public is served without delay,” it said in a statement. “This administration stands ready to continue negotiating to reach a fair salary and benefits package for our valued employees and looks forward to welcoming them back to work on Monday.”
