It’ll be a game-filled summer for NBC, but a busy Olympics schedule won’t leave room for two of the Peacock’s reality series: LA Fire and Rescue and Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge have both been cancelled, our sister site Deadline reported Monday.
LA Fire and Rescue gave viewers unprecedented access to the inner workings of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Premiering in May of last year, “the series documents real calls and real drama while giving faces to the passionate firefighters who risk their lives in the name of service,” reads its official description. “These real-life heroes and their compelling stories are told alongside the unpredictable dangers they face on the front lines of life and death.”
NBC also hit the brakes on Hot Wheels, a series where superfans face off in transforming an ordinary vehicle into an extraordinary Hot Wheels showstopper. “Working alongside a team of automotive magicians known as ‘The Car Pool,’ the two superfans will create their designs in high-tech, decked-out garages,” reads the description. “The winner of each episode will take home $25,000 and the chance to get into the finale where three lucky finalists will transform another car in hopes of winning a legendary prize — an additional $50,000 and the honor of having their design made into an official Hot Wheels die-cast car.”
Rutledge Wood (Top Gear US, Floor Is Lava) served as host and one of the show’s judges. Ford designer Dalal Elsheikh and Hoonigan’s Hertrech “Hert” Eugene Jr. also judged. The series premiered June 21, 2023.
Will you miss one of these cancelled shows or are you happy to make room on your DVR for some Olympics action? Let us know in the comments.
I watched LA Fire and Rescue. It was good. Don’t know why they needed to cancel it though. Just use it at another time. I will be watching the Olympics, at least some if it.
With the Hot Wheels show when ever ad for the episodes showed you what car they started with & what they transformed it into there was no point to watch. I avoid looking when I see ads for Foodnetwork competition shows or the 1st few minutes til they get to the actual competition.
It appears all the networks want to show is competition reality shows and sports. My family enjoyed LA fire and seeing the men and women in a real fire department respond to call. I don’t care for the other shows that have singers competing etc. Televison has changed from ratings from viewers to “what can we show to make more money? ” My free time has increased significantly. No Olympics, March madness sports or other sappy reality shows for me.
I think it’s a shame to cancel ‘LA Fire and Rescue! It’s an awesome show! They should have canceled one of their less educational shows!
I absolutely loved LA Fire and Rescue. Perfect mix of action, fire house comradery. What a shame.
I am a huge fan of first responder reality tv shows BUT LA Fire and Rescue was just not good
Love Fire & Reacue LA . Will
Miss it Always cancel the good ones
What!? LA Fire and Rescue was awesome! It was like watching an updated version of EMERGENCY! This was a reality show that probably cost next to nothing to produce. What (another) bad move by NBC. If it wasn’t for Chicago One shows on Wednesday nights and Quantum Leap, I wouldn’t be watching anything on NBC.
Agree with you in this. It was the best fire show since Emergency! and finally a show that’s not NY or Chicago based (no offense mind you, respect to all FD’s). With LA County being so diverse, so much rescue stories could’ve been told. What a shame!!
I can’t believe NBC has axed LA Fire & Rescue! It honors first responders and shows what they have to deal with in real life with saving our lives. What a shame we have to worry about what makes money these days and probably only used this as a ‘filler’ due to the writer’s strike and/or COVID.
I will miss both of the shows
I really enjoyed LA Fire & Rescue. Seeing how the first responders are trained both in the classroom and the field was very eye opening. Also watching how the different stations served different people areas was informative. I much prefer reality documentaries over most scripted shows these days.
Not everyone is into sports or the Olympics. It will be sad to see LA Fire and Rescue go. That was the main reason for us watching anything on the network.
LA fire and rescue was such an amazing show! Soooo sad to see it canceled. I need Paco in my life! Please bring it back!
I don’t watch the Olympics, so I will watching shows on the streaming services
I would rather watch La fire rescue than the olympics, definitely more exciting
I’m really NOT HAPPY ABOUT ABOUT LA FIRE RESCUE!!!! I hope another network picks it up!
I don’t watch reality shows and I won’t be watching the Olympics. I also am not interested in watching sports.
I love LA Fire and Rescue. I am sad to see it is being cancelled. Hope someone will decide to bring it back. Fire Fighters are very important in society.
You’ve got One Chicago, you don’t need La Fire and Rescue!!
I won’t miss either one of these shows, BUT I am not watching the Olympics either. I will just watch some other DVR recorded shows.
I’m very sad that they canceled LA Fire and Rescue. I was looking forward to another season.
Thank for not remove Chicago, fire, med, and PD. I watch them all. I think the cast is outstanding.
NBC should be ashamed to cancel LA Fire and Rescue love the show I won’t be watching the Olympics that’s for sure
DARNETT, NBC!!! I like(d) L.A. Fire and Rescue. It was a good series even better than Chicago Fire. They are canceling it because of the Olympics? Bummer. I’ll watch the Olympics but please bring back L.A. Fire & Rescue.
My mom watched “LA Fire and Rescue” but she won’t be sad over its cancellation.
Too bad. I really like LAFR.
