Nasim Pedrad’s Chad just can’t catch a break. [pmc_inline_gallery]
TBS has cancelled the single-camera comedy just hours ahead of its previously scheduled Season 2 premiere. The cable network intends to assist in the search for a new home for Season 2.
“As we continue to assess content and implement a new [unscripted] strategy for our network, we can now share that Season 2 of Chad will not air on TBS,” a TBS spokesperson told our sister site Deadline. “We are proactively exploring various options to find the right home for it. We celebrate and thank Nasim Pedrad, the passionate creator, executive producer and star of the series, for sharing a bold, unexpected coming of age story with heart and humor. We also thank executive producer Oly Obst, co-showrunner Max Searle, and the entire cast and crew of Chad for their ongoing partnership and wish everyone continued success.”
Originally scheduled to return Monday, April 11, TVLine on April 7 reported that TBS had quietly bumped the series off the spring schedule. Then in May, the network announced that Season 2 would instead bow in the summer, on Monday, July 11 at 10/9c. But alas….
“I recognize the landscape of our industry is changing so quickly. Did I expect my show to get caught in the crosshairs of a corporate restructuring and merger? No,” Pedrad said in a statement. “I’ve spent the last year making a season of television I’m really proud of. From the writers room to production through the edit, a team of very talented and dedicated people came together to tell a story we believe in. A hard comedy that portrays Middle Eastern characters from a place of empathy and humanity. I feel so lucky that Chad has an incredibly loyal fanbase. I know they’re going to love this season and I’m excited for the show to find a new home.”
Chad was one of two remaining live-action sitcoms at TBS following the cancellation of Tracy Morgan’s The Last O.G. The other, Miracle Workers starring Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi, is currently in production on Season 4.
The network’s only other remaining scripted original, former Fox ‘toon American Dad, was previously renewed through Season 19. Its future beyond that remains unclear.
Chad — which stars Saturday Night Live grad Pedrad as a 14-year-old boy — has had a long and tumultuous history. It made it to the pilot stage at Fox in 2016 but was ultimately passed over. Then in 2019, TBS reshot the pilot and given Pedrad the official greenlight. A teaser trailer was first released that spring, but Season 1 didn’t see the light of day for another two years, finally premiering April 6, 2021.
Not shocked as HBO Max removed the first season two weeks ago along with all of The Last OG and Snowpiercer, so clearly Zaslav has no love for TBS and TNT properties.
Snowpiercer was removed? Good thing I finished S3 last week!
I don’t understand that. Streaming the episodes on HBO Max allows WarnersDiscovery to monetize the series beyond airing episodes on TBS/TNT (provided that they dont sell the series to other outlets). In the case of Snowpiercer, season 3 was added at the end of April, which would mean that season 3 was only available on Max for two months.
That’s disappointing. I truly enjoyed the dry humor, and hope to see season 2 soon.
Totally agree!
I agree also. I enjoyed watching it.
Oh dear, without commercials for this thing and Samantha Bee every five minutes to kill off viewers’ brain cells, how will TBS keep its ratings?
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
I love this show! I, too, was wondering what happened to the show. I hope it finally makes it on air. It’s such a “cringy” comedy, but hilarious.
Hilarious?!! Do you even know what funny is? This show was unbelievable pathetic!
Dittto
Republican.
Delayed twice, once in the Summer (which is normally the wasteland of the TV season)…I think it is DOA.
Glad to see I was right ;)
Seriously, what’s the deal? This show is awesome, love the humor and oddity of the while thing! Ratings for season 1 were good, so I’m not sure what’s going on. Did they tick off some group of people? I’m sick of all the PC police and TPTB bowing to pressure and giving into these idiots!! Chad is an awesome show and deserves more love and a forking premiere date and stick with it, geez! SMH
Chad is done over & out. The last of TBSs scripted has been cancelled. Allegedly looking for a new home.
As the article states, Miracle Workers is in production on Season 4. Chad is not TBS’ last scripted original.
Canceled on the day of the premiere is harsh.
That does seem vindictive. Maybe she pissed off an exec. Seems like something a babyish exec man would do.
Babyish exec man? You mean Kathleen Finch?
Was the show even being advertised? I haven’t watched anything on TBS since The Last OG went off, so I have no idea if they’ve been running commercials for it or not.
yes they were adverstising it i think heavily on both tbs and tnt
This show was horrible. It doesn’t need a new home.
I agree. IMNSHO the worst in decades. Cancelling the day before airdate was harsh, though. Should have cancelled it long before out of pity.
No way, it was great, for us middle eastern and south asain viewers and was full of culture references and comedy
I totally agree! Finally! Someone with common sense who knows what’s funny and what’s not. Chad was a piece of crap!
You’re kind of a terrible person.. All of your replies that I’ve read thus far are personal insults and judgments based on whether or not someone enjoys one random TV show.
Even setting aside peoples’ tendencies to try to objectively call a show good or bad rather than expressing their own opinion in a subjective way (“it was crap” vs “I hated it”), there’s no “common sense” virtue in liking or disliking any single entertainment project — or any virtue. For example, you’re not automatically an ignorant racist if you don’t like Chad, and you’re not automatically a woke snowflake if you do. People can have wildly varying interests and tastes and the hyper segmentation of the market over the last decade or two now enables this to the extreme. If you don’t like one show, you go watch another.
It’s a good thing that options are available. Because while it would be awesome if all the entertainment that was available in the world aligned with your specific tastes? It would suuuuper suck if it aligned with someone with opposite tastes.
Next time a show like this exists in the world, maybe just.. change the channel, switch streaming platforms, or touch grass. Even roll your eyes. But if you feel so strongly about your dislike that you /must/ read and reply to comments on a random website, please try to remember that there are real people on the other side of the screen who may have really enjoyed the show and that your desire not only to rain on their parade but to be rude and awful while doing it is.. unnecessary at best. Because it would super suck if you were the one being talked down to/about by strangers.
And for the record, this is from someone who’s never seen Chad and had no desire to. I just don’t like the Hateorade you’re spewing.
TBS has one remaining series … American Dad which has aired on the network since 2014. Currently in it’s 19th season. No new episodes are scheduled to air until September. Most likely that’ll be it. Maybe FOX will pick it back up ? Everyone should have known Warner- Discovery was going to axe all of it’s first run productions to cut costs. It was inevitable.
What? That was my favorite series on TBS no need to what TBS now. So disappointed and can’t wait until season 2 is released on another platform
Same
TBS/TNT just rip off the band-aid and pull the ol’ radio station suddenly changing formats move. Suddenly play a classic 80’s move over and over for 24 hours then announce they are becoming an a channel dedicated to 80’s movies and be done instead of playing with all these showrunners. That’s essentially what they want to do, just become movie channels again.
The article states TBS is moving toward airing more “unscripted” shows.
I enjoyed this odd little show. Hope it finds another home.
It didn’t strike me as a show I’d be remotely interested in watching
Good. It never should have made it to air in the first place.
Yes! I am so happy!
What an awful, horrid show.
I love Chad. I’m really disappointed. Fox should pick it back up and pair it with Flatch. (And, yes, I like Welcome to Flatch.)
That would make a great hour of television. Fantastic idea, PR.
I am disappointed and saddened that TBS cancelled this show ( and I agree that cancelling on the premier date is incredibly harsh). I really enjoyed the characters and the humor. I hope it is picked up elsewhere soon! I would much rather watch this show than the constant, redundant sit-com reruns currently on TBS.
This is unbelievable. I have been waiting for this premiere for months, only to be disappointed again.
I won’t forget about this TBS.
Chad is a very well-done, enjoyable show. I hope I will be able to view it elsewhere.
It’s not TBS. It was its Corporate Owner that did the canceling.
I have been waiting for this to come back. I don’t see why a cool show like this that made me LMAO doesn’t get a chance but they can keep on that stupid “Neighborhood!”
It’s not fair to those of us that were looking forward to season two. I was very much looking forward to see it.
If I had to tolerate the Chad character to watch his hot mother it was worth it.
When I first heard of the Warner/discovery merger I was thinking this was going to be a great thing and there would be so much more content for HBOMAX. But clearly I was wrong and they are going to do away with a large quantity of scripted television for more stupid reality BS. The dumbing down of America continues. Not only has everything at TNT and TBS been canceled, nearly 2/3 of the shows on The CW have also been canceled. I wonder if this merger was also the reason there isn’t going to be a season three of Raised By Wolves on HBOMAX. I wonder how many other shows are going to get the acts on HBO Max. I haven’t seen early renewals for a lot of shows that are really good. Discovery just might ruin HBO. I’ve always thought that HBO was by far the gold standard for television. I have a feeling that May be ending with this merger. R IP HBO.
So disappointed. I really loved this show. She was great in it as well as the rest of the cast and the writing. I hope we will get to see season 2 somewhere.
Super upset. I’ve been looking forward to Season 2 since the last episode last season! I hope Netflix or FX pick it up. Can’t wait!!!
It’s just not funny!
