UPDATE:

Debris from the home that collapsed on Friday in Rodanthe has been observed up to 11 miles away, according to the National Park Service.

Seashore and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge officials say cleanup efforts began on Saturday around 1 pm and will continue.

NPS says the beach will remain closed from Mirlo Beach to the parking lot on the north end of the Jug Handle Bridge and visitors are urged to avoid the beach in these areas due to the threat of hazardous debris.

Other oceanfront structures in northern Rodanthe between the G.A. Kohler Drive area and the north end of Mirlo Beach also sustained damaged.

The owner of the collapsed home on Corbina Drive has been notified.

Authorities are urging the public to avoid Rodanthe beaches following a house that collapsed Friday evening.

The unoccupied home was located on Corbina Drive in Rodanthe and is the seventh home to collapse on Seashore beaches over a 4-year span.

The owner has been notified and clean-up efforts may be performed by the National Park Service if other efforts do not occur. However, debris removal most likely will not take place until next week after sea conditions diminish.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore officials say visitors should stay off the beaches and not enter the water around all areas of Rodanthe beaches and surf due to the potential for dangerous debris being present.

Public entry has been closed from the northern boundary of Rodanthe to the northern end of the Jug Handle Bridge.

Other homes in the area are said to have sustained damages, per a release.

As a result of current weather conditions, debris is being transported to the north, which may impact visitor safety in the Waves and Salvo villages in the upcoming days.

No injuries have been reported.
