In a rut?
Aug 15
When this show is at its best, with John Siracusa explaining and appreciating some aspect of an Apple product or experience, it’s like nothing else. But Casey and Marco are app developers, with apparently unlimited vitriol toward most of the things Apple does to make money, and unlimited energy for mulling over—is ‘bitterly mulling’ a thing?—Apple’s interactions with the EU and with developers. They can’t really grasp users’ perspective (for instance, they dismiss the security questions around sideloading as all but irrelevant), and they go on and on, whingeing unstoppably in the way that middle-aged men so readily do. It would be funny if it didn’t make such long stretches of the show unlistenable. So sadly, unless you’re seeking the grinding tedium of listening to someone complain till they’re hoarse, it’s not such a good listen any more.

Used to be great

This podcast used to be my favorite. Now it’s devolved into Casey and Marco complaining about Apple every episode. I stuck around because of John’s nuance and level headed approach to the issues, but even that isn’t enough to counter the constant whining anymore.
“Experts”

Gotta love the discourse from three unemployed dudes who, aside from John, have zero corporate experience and yet they definitely know how to run Apple better than Apple. Never mind that Apple draws the best & brightest from around the world, but these clowns definitely know better. It’s gotten so cringy.
