"I know what we're gonna do today: We're gonna solve the mystery of the Danville crop circles."
— Phineas[src]

The Flying Saucer is a spacecraft built by Phineas and Ferb as a means of solving the enigma surrounding the inception of peculiar crop art.

History[]

The kids are appreciating various objects at Flynn-Fletcher Antiques, one of which being a UFO poster. To quench their curiosity, Lawrence recounts his purported close encounter related to the sudden appearance of crop circles in fields around Danville. Despite his story surmising as a road scare, he does believe the nature of extraterrestrial entities is cool, therefore explaining the poster's place in his store. The question now looming, the boys decide to pursue the alien field mystery.

The group begins to work on the project, seeing Candace taking a self-care day for a change. Some time later, Phineas and Ferb demonstrate the finalized product to their friends, immediately lifting off to start the search. Navigating through town, the gang observes each crop circle in hopes of finding a pattern to them, unwittingly garnering attention due to their mode of transportation. Soon, they arrive at the last location, still without a clue to the symbols' significance.

While in the final reported site, Baljeet pulls up the sightings map one more time at the boys' request, leading to the discovery of one suspiciously empty spot. Along the way to it, they accidentally crash into a Pizza Contest stage, momentarily stunning the participants. At the desolate field, Buford picks up an oddly-shaped key, attracting the aliens, who enlighten the purpose of the art and hunt. As thanks, a valuable device is returned to the humans, ending the journey ("Sci-Fi Pie Fly").

Design[]

The Flying Saucer is a spaceship modeled after a UFO. Its exterior comprises a light gray external encasing with gray markings, white rectangular imprintings, a dark gray striped part, a dark gray lower turbine, and a dark gray cover outline. Enveloped by a hemispherical transparent canopy, the interior contains five black seats with dark gray seatbelts; surrounding green panels, and a gray main console connected to two black steering sticks.

Mechanics[]

The Flying Saucer is a space transport doubling as an air vehicle. Movable via the steering controls, it has a standard constant speed, shown through its yellow electromagnetic emission in the shape of a prolate spheroid. Utility features include a crop circle map accessible using the border panels, and flexible seating which can be pushed within the internal area.

Background Information[]

  • Lawrence's story involves his motorcar behaving oddly, shortly prior to the appearance of a captivating flash of light. In actuality, it had been a tow truck driver called by him to fix the vehicle's battery.
  • Throughout the escapade, Buford showcases his skepticism towards spacecrafts' existence, in spite of having already ridden at least one as pointed out by Isabella. He changes his mind upon seeing a real extraterrestrial machine, likely because the source of his belief is a lack of contact with genuine articles.
  • According to Phineas, the motive for the Flying Saucer's construction is to comply with the alien theme.
  • Every crop circle has the same design of the key, as part of the aliens' call for help.
  • The news report covering the spaceship's appearance pokes fun at Phineas and Ferb's unconventionally-shaped heads, which is the primary reason for their misidentification as otherwordly creatures. Incidentally, the actual ones are exactly as depicted in the artist rendering.
  • Encountering the key, Buford uses it as a hair scratcher before being noticed by the item's owners.
  • The device returned to the kids is the Voyager Space Probe, divulged to have been lost in 1977. This indicates that the mission failed soon after its launch, unlike in the real world.
  • In the end, Candace fully resists the busting urge, only to miss a chance thanks to an exploding pizza, which blows in her face, blocking her mother's view of the saucer. Earlier, she had stated to Stacy that no busting meant nothing blowing in her face, effectively jinxing herself.
  • At night, the Flying Saucer is revealed to have stayed in the backyard, a rarity for the boys' inventions.
