Fans of Conor Oberst have witnessed the singer/songwriter grow up in Bright Eyes, maturing from an emotionally-charged young man singing hyper-literate tales of heartbreak into a self-assured folk singer sharing duets with My Morning Jacket's Jim James and Emmylou Harris. As the collective became more accessible, their frontman also showcased his ear for melody and relatable lyricism via several other musical avenues, namely pop-punk side project Desaparecidos, alt-country outfit Mystic Valley Band and indie supergroup The Monsters of Folk.
