Lagu rakyat ialah genre muzik yang merangkumi lagu rakyat tradisional dan genre kontemporari yang berkembang daripada yang pertama semasa abad ke-20 kebangkitan lagu rakyat. Sesetengah jenis lagu rakyat boleh dipanggil muzik dunia. Lagu rakyat tradisional telah ditakrifkan dalam beberapa cara: sebagai muzik yang dihantar secara lisan, muzik dengan komposer yang tidak diketahui, muzik yang dimainkan pada instrumen tradisional, muzik tentang identiti budaya atau kebangsaan, muzik yang berubah antara generasi (proses rakyat), muzik yang dikaitkan dengan rakyat. cerita rakyat, atau muzik yang dipersembahkan oleh adat dalam jangka masa yang panjang. Ia telah dibezakan dengan komersial dan gaya klasik.[1]
