Meta and EssilorLuxottica, the owners of brands like Ray-Ban, Lenscrafters, and Sunglasses Hut, will continue to work together “into the next decade,” the companies said in a press release announcing a new long-term agreement.
The companies have worked together since 2019, releasing two generations of Ray-Ban smart glasses powered by Meta tech. I’ve owned both pairs of Meta smartglasses; while the original glasses were a first-gen product, I love the Meta Ray-Bans that launched at the end of 2023.
The latest Ray-Bans have some fun AI features, like asking the glasses to look at a landmark and tell you what it is. In Berlin, I used the feature more than I thought. You can also get the Meta Ray-Bans to translate a sign in a different language. You can also listen to music, live stream content, make phone calls and more.
