Opening Night 1977
god. god! gena rowlands truly was a once-in-a-lifetime actress. no one had ever done it like her and no one ever will. i think that, after watching my third cassavetes movie, i love his style. they leave you feeling breathless and lightheaded and changed afterwards, something i just can’t trace to any other director. he could truly capture real, painstakingly human emotions unlike any other filmmaker, and his partnership with his wife gena just solidified this impact. her acting barely…

The Big Combo 1955
ohhhhhhhh. oh this was so good. this is so underrated it’s insane. one of the best in the genre tbh. lee van cleef and earl holliman also play gay henchmen so that alone makes this movie deserve five stars. this was amazing. i can’t stop thinking about the “you won’t hear the bullets” scene

Key Largo 1948
okay yet another movie i need to rewatch because i was doing homework while watching this but omgggg this was probably the best of the 1940s bacall/bogart film noirs. not only did it probably have some of the best performances from lauren and humphrey but we also get some absolutely INCREDIBLE performances from edward g. robinson, claire trevor, and lionel barrymore. i was so in love with the lingering trauma from the war that was present in this movie as well as the amazing direction and cinematography. i need to watch more john huston movies soooo bad

The Big Sleep 1946
i ended up getting pretty tired by the end of this so i never really understood the plot BUT i am obsesseddddd with the dialogue. personally i think this is wayyyy better than to have and have not, but the chemistry between bogart and bacall is still just as strong as in their first movie together. for the entire movie i was absolutely enthralled by lauren’s character and i will definitely rewatch this just for her sometime soon. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAUREN BACALL I LOVE YOU !!!!!
