One of the most powerful “what if” stories ever told. Genuine, bittersweet and achingly beautiful. Dealing with themes of love, loss, destiny, and choice, “Past Lives” is both emotionally and thematically rich. A modern romance about how the experiences and memories of our past ultimately shape who we become and the choices we make in the present. Greta Lee and Yoo Teo are both marvelous and exude such indestructible chemistry. Celine Song handles the material with so much delicacy and precision. Such a confident directorial debut, and it’s likely we’ll see more from the acclaimed playwright turned filmmaker as a result. I really hope this is the case, as Song has a strong cinematic voice that I can totally get behind.
